How much better is the 992 than the 991?
So I've been on the 992 TTS waiting list for a model from my dealer for a while now. Recently I was at a different dealer who had a beautiful Carrara White Metallic 991 TTS (2016 or 2017), fully loaded with every option possible, with approximately 7000 miles on it, on his lot. The asking price is a little north of $130k.
Personally I've been in love with the 992 TTS since it was introduced and have been trying to get an allocation for a while now. Financially, the asking price for a 992 TT/TTS from the dealer or on the second hand market would be manageable but it would be a bit of a stretch for me at the moment. The 991 on the lot, even without any kind of haggling, is a lot more affordable, obviously, than the 992. And the condition the car is in is immaculate, from what I can tell.
So I'm asking for people who have experience with both the 991 TTS and the 992 TTS: give me your opinion... how much better (or different) is the 992 than the 991, and is a newer 992 TTS worth $100k more than a used, fully-loaded 991 TTS? I'd hate to buy the 991 and then still feel like I want the 992, but at the end of the day, if the 991 (in exactly the exterior / interior color I want) provides 90% of the experience of the 992 at half the cost, that is something to be considered.

The spread in value is always going to be big on the 992 over the 991.1 or 991.2. I had a 991.2 GTS Coupe and it was a nice car, went to a 992 Targa 4s and now a 992 Turbo S. Big, big difference in a 992 over a 991.2 and I'm going to assume even bigger than a 991.1. I had some options on the 2 992's that may have made the comparison unfair like PDCC and many additional upgrades , but each generation of 911 are superior more than one way over the previous generation.
I strongly believe the 992 will hold value much better going forward and yes it will cost 100k more but I'm pretty sure that car will always be worth 100k more than the 991's.

Just traded my 14 Turbo for my 992 TTS. The 992TTS is incrementally better. Quieter, smoother, better electronics, esthetics, and handling, a touring supercar.. Is it worth 175k more for me. NO. But YOLO. Great daily driver and occasional track weapon. IMO

IIRC, the bump in hp between the 992 and 991 was higher than the usual incremental moves that Porsche does. Also, handling was improved as they had GT3 engineers work on the 992 TTS.

And, FWIW, since this is my daily driver and gets used for errands, commuting, and long-haul road trips, I *love* having Apple CarPlay.

The PCM is a little slower...can be clunky. It eventually gets better as you drive the car...
As far as PDK speed, between 991.2 and 992 I think they are the same. 8-spd PDK weighs more. But the suspension (sport suspension option) is far better and the track widths are higher...so it's a beast.
Gas mileage is worse on 992 FYI.

I had a 991.2 TTS and 992 TTS (with SPASM) at the same time. I recently traded in the 991 and still have the 992. Both are fantastic cars, can't go wrong with either, and if money is a real consideration, CPO 991 is perhaps a better value.
- 991 feels a bit softer, 992 closer to a GT car
- My 991 was modded and felt almost as fast as the 992
- 991 has a cozier cabin and more analog, 992 cabin feels bigger and more digital
- 992 looks a bit more muscular
- Both cars are a hoot to drive on road and track
- Brakes in both cars are great, but 992 brakes feel closer to a race car
At some point, I'd like to have a 991 TTS back in my garage. It's a really special car.

I think you'd have to drive both cars back to back on the same day to really know. I know that I wanted the newest car to replace my 2012 Turbo S so I wouldn't look back and say "dang, wish I had just bought the 992 Turbo S instead of the 991 Turbo S" when I had the chance, since I was single. Now I'm married... I met a lady 1 mo after buying the car and, I'm glad I went for it in retrospect. It was so much money for me but now, it's over and done with and I smile from ear to ear every time I drive it. 640 HP.... 2nd fastest car ever reviewed by Car and Drive when this car was reviewed.... just, so cool.
