Default Oil change

Those of you that are doing your own oil changes, what oil are you using? I have done one oil change and dealer has done one. I'm about to do another one. I was told the oil in picture was the correct oil for 992. I figure this is more for European cars with the particulate filter and stricter emissions. Is this required for American Porsche?

I was just looking to do my first change after break-in, my owners manual said to use 0w-40 from Mobil 1.

Going to the Mobil 1 website and entering in my car, that oil is the only result. I was eyeing up 2 cases on Amazon as I type this.

Do you know the filter part numbers? Crush washer?

I was hoping to find an oil change kit online, but have been unsuccessful.

suncoast has a filter change kit. Comes with filter, o ring, and drain plug. All genuine Porsche.

That’s the correct oil.

Finding a definitive answer about whether ESP X3 is needed versus standard Mobil 1 full synthetic 0W-40 for those of us here in the USA and elsewhere without particulate filters (OPF) is an ongoing mystery for me. However, the good news is that if you use the oil that you posted, you're using the highest spec available, so you can't go wrong no matter where you are geographically.

I also change my own oil between each dealership service, and while it is probably a waste of money given how few miles I drive, it makes me feel better. It would be difficult to make a case that it's hurting anything but my wallet.

The spec is C40.

You need a special tool to remove the drain plug BTW.

The plug is replaced every oil change I think.

Add 9 bottles then check the level and it’s usually about a half bottle to fill it all the way to 3/4 full.

To reset the oil reminder and log the service you need piwis3.

In 2021 it was hard to find the X3 oil, had to get in from England the first two changes, then a PCA member told me our local Walmart had X3, I bought 10 6 packs, so I am good for few years

All great information. I personally don't want to reset the oil minder myself because I like to do an extra oil change in between the ones done and recorded at the dealership. If you reset it yourself, then they think it doesn't need to be done until the next interval. If you want to do all of your own oil changes, the piwis3 is the only way I know to reset the minder. I just want regular dealership performed oil changes on record for ease of warranty purposes.

Apparently there is a special tool for removing the drain plug that gets changed every time, but I have been using a large flathead screwdriver bit with very little force and it has worked fine. Just don't over torque because you will probably crack the plastic drain plug. Not ideal though, and I should buy the tool if I can find an OEM one.

Yes a flat head should work too, it’s similar to their tool.

If anyone does oil samples we have a thread going to post it and compare.

I just did my first oil and filter change, the parts department at my Porsche dealership told me it would take 9 litres of oil to fill but my oil sensor is telling me to add another litre which I haven’t done due to the fear of overfilling and not trusting the sensor.

It sounds like you always put at least 9 and a half litres in without overfilling.

9 litres will def not be enough from what I’ve seen.

its more like 9 bottles and 35-40% of the 10th bottle.

AUTEL mx808s can also reset oil light. I just found this out myself.

I will post this as I spent longer than I would like to admit trying to double check that I was buying the correct Mahle filter from Amazon.

I realize it can be found cheaper else where, but appreciate it coming with the plug and knowing it’s the correct filter.
