I know that the design team was really challenged with trying to find a happy "balance" between legendary analog 911 style interiors and accommodating something more futuristic.... but the hodgepodge of this interior is bizarre.

like most recent 911 evos, i'm not wowed at all, but it is a safe evolution of the design, as not to leave any true fans behind.
the use of black plastic front and rear looks cheap. front end has a 'gaping' appearance - not a fan.
also think it's kind of lame to introduce the 'NEW' 911 with a tail treatment that has been out on the panny and the 718 for a couple of years now. the 911 got the treatment last? what is there to be surprised about in that trickle down? i like the treatment actually - most daring change in the entire model, but all other models have it already! underwhelming.
tailpipes are ok. no issue with the placement really, but they clearly mimic the audi R8. this thing seems derivative in so many ways!
not a fan of the vertical slats and the brake light looks out of place there. horrible choice - what was wrong with a barely seen slat above the window??
the best view is from above, where it seems to mimic the 993 body lines. the rear arches look promising in pics - hoping the hips stand out in person.
also, look at a 3/4 view from the front and tell me that doesn't look like the back 2/3s of the 370Z.
just another safe evo from porsche. not surprising.
i will certainly be keeping my 993 WB quite a bit longer...

It was mentioned several times that this 992 is heavier, and various numbers were quoted.
i was just checking and comparing the specs and curb weight listed on the US Porsche site.
Curb Weight for cars with pdk
992 Carrera S - 3382 lbs
991.2 Carrera S - 3219 lbs
That is a 163 lbs difference. And this car does not have the particulate filter
Edit: sorry my initial post had the numbers for 991.2 manual

If you play with the options on the configurator you can actually make the interior look a little better. Still a big miss in my book but adding some color and options it looks bearable.

Again, that interior makes me lose my lunch
I've cancelled plans for a fall '19 european delivery now that I've seen it, and I can't get a new 991.2 at that point

They left this true fan behind, that interior is hideous, I could probably get used to some of the exterior except for that ugly 3rd brake light and the gaping maw in the front and a porsche without real exhaust tips show me how much the designers have lost the plot

To each his own. I think it looks fantastic, and that the interior is a huge leap forward, moving away from the cookie cutter sports car layout to something much more sophisticated while retro at the same time, with the strong horizontal elements of the older 911s. I love it, and I say that as a 2018 991.2 owner. I would argue that the 992 interior is much more "911" than 911 interiors have been in quite some time.

During the presentation the speaker when talking of 996 said...beside the design....which tells all
Oliver was somehow embarassed and Andreas laughing
Designer of 996 and 992 should go to jail
the former for the fried eggs and the latter for the rear and interior
Let me go and kiss my 991 GT3T

This is must be the successor to the 996.
The side view looks fine but the front, rear, interior are just epic fails.
Change for the sake of change. If you change something it should be a technical or visual improvement.
I guess Porsche doesn't do well with the even numbered versions. Hopefully the GT cars improve in these areas...

"Hey time by time we make big mistake on design but afterall it s the proof that 911 can resist even to us"

I was at the LA Auto Show today. The car that received the most attention, hands down and it's not even close, was the 992.
The overwhelming feeling from nearly everyone who stood next to it and sat inside it was that the car was a complete homerun when you are next to it or sitting in it. It's unmistakably 911. It has a little more presence and aggression to the exterior than previous generations. The interior is well done when sitting in it. The "shelf" as some call it is not as dramatic as some make it out to be. The gauges are bright and easy to read. The navi/audio screen is bright and easy to read. The nubbin shifter is a big miss. It's small and flimsy and won't change gears. The seats are great...as 911 seats have always been.
