Great writeup! Thanks to you, msile's original writeup and others I just did the install on my 992 for Uniden R7. As it happens my best option for routing thr power cord was just like yours! I really like the sticky back hooks you used to tuck the wire in. Where can I buy that type of hook?

Can someone make a video doing the whole install step by step? I’ve never messed with wires or “taps” before so the pictures and written language don’t really make sense to me. Id like to see removing the plastic trims in action, sliding the radar or dash cam wire through the top and actually connecting the wires to the blue plug. Thanks

It's not hard at all, the power connection is probably the easiest step and following Blendmount's instructions combined with these make it super simple. Youtube is your friend as well

Can I connect both a radar detector and a Blackvue camera to the same wires or will that draw too much current? For the camera I’d like a constant power rather than an ACC on/off any idea what to tap into for that?

It should be enough power.

The cameras need to connect to constant power and accessory power so they know when to go into parking mode. In parking mode they will be in standby mode and only record when they detect motion. Connecting the camera to constant power only is probably not a good idea due to the risk of draining the battery.

Thank you all for the tips! Quick question. I know everyone said connect red with white for power and black to gray/clear for ground, but my connection cord isn't long enough to tie in to that side of the blue connector switch. Is it ok to tie in to the other side of blue connector where red to white and black to black? I did that and it seems to be working fine. Just want to make sure I'm not screwing anything up. Thanks again!

The connector on the right is what you're aiming for; it doesn't matter which side of the connector though.

Appreciate the guide here thanks @msile and the adds from @Scott P ! Completed my install last weekend, very easy once I used the mirror tap wires and not the V1 supplied direct wiring...

Appreciate everyone's tips in this thread. Going to get around to this one soon as I've had the wire taps for ages already

I ordered the longest set of wire taps I could find which I believe were 15" long. There's excess but I just pushed that back up in to the trim piece and made a nice install.

Does anyone know what fuse this connector would be on? I made the mistake of turning the ignition on while attempting to connect and I think I may have blown a fuse as I cannot get any power to the detector off this one. I got power off the one next to it by using the red wire for power but it is not switched.

I just need to install / hook up my blackvue dash cam.
Picture?
