Porsche is very clear that they recommend 2000 miles before allowing revs over 4-5K. Many people substitute their own judgement because, well, we apparently buy a Porsche knowing that their engineers are dumb. I will follow the expert recommendations.
Porsche engineers are definitely smarter than me, but I also wonder what/when problems will start to appear if not properly broken in. Is it after 50K miles? 100K miles? More? Is this more so to avoid issues during the warranty period, thus minimizing cost to Porsche? I literally never break in any car...always thrash it from day one. Never have problems either, but also don't keep them too long. Maybe all the poor folks buying my cars second-hand are suffering?
8 911's in 20 years... how many miles can you get on a car that you're holding for an average of 3 years? No way to know what harm is done until that car is closer to 100,000 miles... know what I mean?
I don't hold cars either. Maybe I'm just selfish, but I never find myself thinking I better baby my car because some guy that owns the car 10+ years from now might encounter problems if I don't.
Funny that the cars on PSDS come off the truck to the track, Quite literally. I got GTSs with 20 miles on them and TTS off the truck to the track, not even stickers on them. They are sold as certified all over the country after about a year of use/torture.
The only cars they hold back are the GT cars, which only the instructors drive upon arriving until some miles are in.
Drive cold engines with care, regardless of mileage. Don't drive short distances too often so the oil has a chance to reach proper temperatures and do its work.

My thoughts after reading the break in topic before with a ton of cars is hard pass. I avoid dragging about at low rpm and instead vary rpms and generally drive it hard once proper temp is reached. I’ve had no issues but also don’t keep cars past 20-30k miles
I was playing around yesterday, and did a few runs to 60 in my 992 C4S manual to see what kind of times it would do.
I was using a iPhone based app called Race Timer, which sucks and probably not accurate. I first did a couple of normal driving to see how my speedo calibrated according to this app and a standard speed GPS app (I use the 2nd one on my jeep to see how much the larger tires changed the speed, and what I needed to tweak the settings to adjust properly) Firstly, both apps showed my speedo on my porsche was about 2mph quicker than what the apps said - ok somewhat interesting. Again most of this phone based apps suck, but looks like the speedo may read a tad quicker than in actuality.
I have my Vbox in my maclaren 720, but didn't move it to the 992 for this test. May do it later to get more accurate reading.
All runs on a relatively flat stretch and decent road. All runs was from complete stop, without slipping the clutch for added RPM gain that you can get. Since I am at 1K miles, I did not try and kill the start or drop the clutch for best start.
All test were in sport mode:
First run - 4.2 second (decent start, my shift to second was a bit slower than run 3)
Second run - 4.5 seconds (Bad start, and horrible shift to 2nd) - you would think I never drove a stick shift..)
Third run 4.0 seconds (This was a good run, smooth start and shift to second was quick).
You could definitely get to a 3.8 seconds with the manual C4S or S if pushing it. Which would put it about the Base Carrera with PDK and Sports Chrono time.
Did a couple of runs with my Vbox in the porsche 992 C4s Manual again today. Not ideal conditions: 94 degrees F, and a DA of 3998 :-( However, no problem getting the tires to dig ;-)
But I confirmed a few of the times I posted above.
Best time of 3-4 tries is 0-60 with 1 ft rollout was right on 3.98 which compared to my previous time with just the IOS app, was pretty close.
While I think you could do better by a few 10ths. The problem is (besides the driver aka=me - which is a factor) that you cannot really rev from start at all with the manual, so the start is slow, builds up quickly then you shift just before you get to 60 which you then lose a fraction or two.
To see what the temp and DA had on the times - I did some back to backs with my 720s (without launch) and I was getting right around 3.03 with this same DA on the same runway. (With launch was 2.78) Typically this has been better in the past when cooler temps, etc. (Usually can get around 2.6 or high 2.5s with launch on the 720 in great conditions) So I would expect maybe 1 or 2 tenths better for the 992 if better temps and DA.

4.0/3.98 is impressive and I suspect that most folks would struggle to get near that. Impressive. Well done. 👍
Car & Driver managed a 3.6s with a level of clutch slipping that that most owners wouldn't subject their car to. Of course, magazine 0-60 times for manual transmission cars are more/less unobtainable by someone who actually cares about their car. LOL

LC is a ton of fun! Very predictable and repeatable results. My best 0-60 is 3.37s (3.13s with 1ft rollout like the magazines) on a not so great street surface. The best launch combo I've found is putting PSM in "Sport" and NOT using the boost response button. I've hear the T/TS can launch in Sport mode with better results than Sport+ even though the manual say LC is only available in Sport+. Has anyone testing this?
