This. Go for it now and get more years out of the current design.
BTW, like your forum name--I still have a Marantz 2270 that I got in the 70's.

@rk-d I think I needed to hear this today for more reasons than deciding to buy a 992. Thank you!

The manual could disappear which is the biggest reason I am getting one now. Who knows if that will still be available. Or it could show up in the Base Carerra and 4 and not require an S. Who knows.

They could do the driver display more like the Taycan with touch controls on the side. Or fix the fact that the sides are difficult to see and you have to bend around the wheel to see the outer parts of the display.

That and interior color options would be my most welcome changes but agree that it also brings it closer to the next gen and being dated. And it is 3 years or so less of you getting to drive it!!!

So now, I'm facing a decision: Order a 992.1 now, or wait ~3 years for the 992.2 and enjoy the improvements that Porsche will inevitably make to this 911 generation. I've seen multiple comments in other threads from Rennlisters saying they never by the first run of any car, and I can understand why: Improvements made from the 991.1 to the 991.2 were well-done. That said: As I looked around the 992.1 I couldn't think of much it was lacking that I would want done differently, perhaps with the exception of the bacon-strip brake light (would prefer a long horizontal light), and the gear shift nubbin, but that is about it.

Still, I know Porsche will make this car better on the .2 round, and if I buy now, I have little doubt I'll be interested in what they have to offer in the update.

The thing that would be a no-brainer for me would be if Porsche decided to integrate a GPF into the North American models of the 992.2. I'd pull the trigger on a 992.1 in a heartbeat of Porsche did that.

For those of you who have owned many Porsches: How do you feel about purchasing the first run? Would you encourage me to go for it now, or be patient and wait for Porsche's update in a few years time (I guess 2024 at the earliest)?

Also, if anyone else has found themselves at a similar decision point, I would appreciate hearing how you have processed this decision.

the 994 will be the first generation 911 not available in pure gas power.... if the 992 goes Hybrid, it will be as an optional drive mode.

This +1000, is the reason I generally buy most of my cars in the 2nd year of a brand new redesign. Most of the kinks worked out and plenty of years before the redo. Caveat is that Porsche does tend to do more significant engine/tranny changes in their .2 refreshes than most manufacturers (997 w PDK, 991 w the turbo regular 911s, etc.). If you're waiting for the hybrid 911, then sure wait for the 992.2, otherwise I agree buy now.

I'm not sure I agree with the original premise. The mantra is usually not to buy the first year of a new generation. They're always working on fixing bugs throughout the cycle, they don't just wait for the refresh.

Cool Don't wait

One reason to buy now is that the price goes up every few months. Order what you really want now and you have locked in the price. I also fear that the 992.2 will have changes I may NOT want to live with. My 992.1 is on its way even as we speak. They have had a couple years to find any design or manufacturing problems in the initial builds and have corrected them. Every few months there will a "Special Edition" so don't wait for those, either.

Agree 100%. Its been manufactured for 18 months now and I am certain they resolve issues on the line and in the supply chain every month. Waiting for 992.2 might mean no manual tranny, a hybrid or particulate filter.

I'm struggling with the same issue. From my experience, which is limited, the 997.2 was a far better car than the 997.1. In that case, I'm glad I got the ".2". Is that always the case? Probably need to do more reading about other iterations.

The next one will always be better using your logic you will always find a reason to wait for the next upgrade. Just do it. Remember," life is not about having what you want but wanting what you have".
