Base 911 with sports chrono vs 911S without sports chrono
Hi there,
Apologies for posting slightly different version of the same question again and again - base 911 vs 911S
I am down to base 911 with sports chrono vs 911S without. Which one would you pick?
Normally I prefer more power but does sports chrono help in everyday driving acceleration? I like when the car power slides.
Before pandemic, I would drive my base 2018 911
to train station and back. Often soccer moms in Tesla X would smoke me at traffic lights (I have a stick shift) - not sure why they want to race me?

My vote is S with manual and standard SC. That way you get your S but save the $2800 cost of SC. Driving a 911 is not about blowing people off at traffic lights in congested areas. Driving a 911 is about finding a great winding road without much traffic and carving curves within the limits of your driving abilities. Of course, you can still enjoy the short drive to the grocery store and put lots of stuff in the frunk. It's the perfect all around car.

Buy whatever but soccer moms in Tesla’s will always dust you if they spent enough coin. I have never in my life experienced so many nut jobs driving way faster around me than with this 992. I had a guy in a diesel dually with no rear bed pass me going 120 two days ago. Can’t make this **** up.
I don’t race people at stop lights period. I dust them around sweeping highway turns lol unfortunately people take the sounds your car makes as evidence you’re interested in racing them or something.

Don't forget, the SC is not just a clock or some kind of gimmick...If you want to beat Teslas off the line, you'll need launch control in the PDK which is only possible with SC...
PDK with LC Gets you:
If you got the manual S, you automatically get SC, without launch control, but in place of it you get the rev-match feature so you always sound like you know how to heel/toe, even though you don't:
Rev-match function – in conjunction with Manual Transmission, the Sport Chrono package provides a rev-match function in both SPORT and SPORT PLUS modes, matching engine RPM to transmission speed for smooth downshifts.
PDK with LC Gets you:
- Analog and digital chronograph – a chronograph installed on top of the dashboard that can be used for timing laps, and can be configured as a clock when not actively used as a stopwatch.
- Mode switch on the steering wheel – vehicles without the Sport Chrono Package feature Normal and Sport modes, selectable via a SPORT button on the dashboard. Adding the Sport Chrono Package moves the SPORT button from the dashboard to an additional mode switch on the steering wheel, allowing drivers to select from multiple drive modes:
– WET mode
– NORMAL mode
– SPORT mode
– SPORT PLUS mode
– Individual mode
– SPORT Response - PSM Sport mode – briefly pressing (< 1 second) the PSM button on the dashboard activates the PSM Sport mode. In this mode, the driver can push closer to the limit range of the vehicle while PSM remains constantly active in the background. PSM Sport mode can be activated independently of the selected driving mode. PSM Sport mode cannot be activated in WET mode.
- Launch control – the launch control function manages engine, gearbox, and stability control systems to provide the quickest standing-start acceleration. This function is only available on vehicles equipped with the PDK gearbox.

Sports Chrono helps acceleration as evidenced by the 0-60 times being slightly faster in both the C2 and C2S with Sports Chrono. Is it useful for everyday driving? I mean, I’m sure if you are the type who likes to drag race from a stop light. I don’t have SC, but use Sport mode pretty often. I can’t imagine an even more aggressive throttle map being useful for everyday driving.
In your case, I would get the S. My guess is that it’s still faster 0-60 without SC than the C2 with SC.
