Keep GT4 or go for 992 S?

Keep GT4 or go for 992 S?
So my GT4 has been frustrating me. I think I need more of a "GT" car than a track car because I don't get to the track nearly as much as a GT4 deserves. Wondering if a 992 w/ an eventual APR E85 tune would be way more fun for me since it would just be stupid fast. Alternatively, I could redo the final drive ratio of the GT4 (that is what is most frustrating to me) and throw another $15k of power mods at it to get it to stock 992 S HP but in a lighter package and w/ the shorter gears, probably would feel fairly quick. This is all just me thinking out loud but would be more than happy to hear opinions from the peanut gallery. :P

The first part of your post shows the conclusion you’ve come to. The GT4 is too track orientated for you, and you know that a 992 is a better solution. So the answer is, get a 992.
You don’t then need to further justify it by discussing 992 potential mods and or trying to mod the GT4. Adjusting the final drive of the GT4 will have some positive effects, but it won’t in anyway make it more comfortable, or get the low/mid range anywhere near where the 992 S is.

I had a GT4 and it can be frustrating to drive on the street. You can't wind it out and you're stuck short shifting alot. It's also not a torque monster so it doesn't feel as fast on the street. The 992 S is going to be better in that respect and it's going to feel faster in real world use around town.

My musings aren't supposed to make sense! Just daydreaming. And I think the only thing that might actually make me care about owning a nice car again would be if it was just ridiculous in some fun way which is why I mention the E85 APR tune. I think even w/ "more" low/mid range, a stock 992 wouldn't genuinely make me smile. I'm really trying to decide between this and an F-150. See! Told you it makes no sense.

I’ve gone the other way 992 to 2020 GT4.
The 992 feels more solid, more sophisticated and has the thump in the back from the twin turbos. The GT4 has lighter, more precise steering and a rawer experience (noisier/rougher ride).
So I’d say if you want a fast tourer go for 992 but if you want short bursts of fun in a less sophisticated way keep the GT4

lol - no I’m sticking with the GT4 till I change my mind 🤪 - it’s a hard call deciding on models - so much info (too much?) on forums and YT not to mention the evil Configurator 😈 - even a test drive gives only limited info (bit like a first date!) - thats why i try and objectively state my experience in posts - but we all come from different backgrounds and experience - good luck to the OP 😊

"Rough Ride" in the GT4 is resolved with the 5 minute installation of a DSC Sport Controller.
I was also thinking about going the 992 route from my 981 GT4, but the 4.5L upgrade released and shut all that down. Just wish I had the funds to make that move right now.

I went to look at a low mile 2019 GTS, thinking i would sell the Golf R and the Z and just have 1 car for everything. GM told me to drive his 992S while they got the GTS out (it was buried). So I did and it really surprised me. The GTS was more track suspension oriented, like the GT4 - but the 992S just had something about it that left me really surprised. I have been a GT guy for awhile - but the S converted me to get a "all around" car - ended up ordering what I wanted and am selling the Golf R, but keeping the Z and will make the 2S my daily driver. Looking forward to it!
Good luck with the car transition - always a fun process!

I believe you would be very happy with a 992 S - better all around car than the gt4 - I had 2016 GT4 and loved it, for fun drives and the track - I sold it because I also had a 2015 Z/28 and felt both cars served the same purpose (albiet very different approachs) - Z is a little faster lap times and half the dollars, so good overall track car selection. I could not decided on a daily so I bought a 2018 Golf R which is a great car for the money and have a GMC AT4 truck.
