Owners that have installed a fire extinguisher, would you mind posting what you have purchased and any photos? Thanks in advance!

Why?

Are you joining your local volunteer fire department?

Seriously, though, may I ask why you want a fire extinguisher in the car?

Is it to put out a fire? If so, if my car is on fire, the first thing I do is run. Fast and far.

The last thing I want to do is to reach down to the passenger seat footwell and grab a dinky fire extinguisher, open it up, unbuckle myself, then try to put out a fire, while all the time risking my life.

This is true if I'm on the street, and even more so if I'm on a track.

(Full disclosure: I have a fire extinguisher in my Pista. It's there just for looks and to impress the kiddos at Cars & Coffee. Yeah, I'm a total poseur and loser. But it was standard OEM equipment, so I guess I have an excuse. )

Question - is an extinguisher not needed for comp / speed events in the US? It is in Australia, although I agree the value is pretty limited if the FIV crews are doing their job.

It varies from organization to organization, even the various sub-chapters of PCA have different rules and regs regarding in-car fire extinguisher (just FYI - the Porsche factory fire extinguisher will not pass many PCA club inspections because of the plastic mounts. Go figure.)

No requirements as far for the groups I run with. In fact, if there is a car fire, I would not want to put it out because I want the car to be totaled.

Here you go. It will tuck under the front seat of they are extended (14 and 18 way), otherwise it kind of hangs out there.

After coming up on a truck that was just starting to catch fire, I wished that I had a fire extinguisher to hand to him. So my last two cars I’ve put one in. If I came up on a situation lien that again, I’d hand it over to them.

I have to agree with the above that if my car caught fire, I’d run and let it burn. However, it’s a cheap option that gives you a choice if confronted with a situation.

Thanks, handy to know. We had the same issue with plastic mounts in Oz; most extinguishers ship with plastic mounts so we'd constantly have people turn up to tech inspection (scrutineering in our language) using them - or even cable ties! Fun and games.

@Dan Nagy Thanks for the pics (great interior... love the Sport tex). Can you tell me which can and mount you are using? I do like that set-up... and I have the exact seats.

I've owned many a British car... so it gives me peace of mind. And yes, I understand the 911 is not British, but those cars put the fear of God in everything I've owned since.

Um, I’ve had four Triumphs, one MGB, and a Lotus Cortina. The only mishap was with the TR6, and that’s because I added fuel injection and one if the braided lines popped. Ha.

This is the OEM setup and ordered it from the factory.

I carry an Element E50 in my cars. Smaller , no residue and lasts longer. Check out some of the online videos for demonstrations.

The only issue is that if you are entering an event that has a fire extinguisher requirement, it will probably not qualify. Not because of performance but because of a lack of certification. More information about this on their website.

Zero chance I’m going to step in and prevent my car from being totaled should there be an unexpected fire. I’m getting a good 100 yards away and waiting for the fire department while I take goodbye photos.

If one actually wants an effective and "clean" fire suppression system, it would be best to install an automatic or manual SFI- or FIA-approved fire system using FE-36.

That's it. Because it looks cool. Check it out, it has a fire extinguisher.

Setting aside the cool factor for a moment lol .. the only concern one could have to keep handy is if they were trapped IN the car with a fire.
Quite possible if high speed crash or on the track.
