How much better is the 992 to the 991.2?
On paper, the 992 has a better PDK, gearing, design change in the front(suspension setup?).
Many threads say that the handling on the 992 is better than the 991.2. How much better is it? Is it clearly noticeable? What else contributes to the 992 being a better car than the 991.2 performance-wise?
If I am looking to drive it spiritually all the time, would the difference be worth it if I switch to 992? or perhaps waiting for the 992.2 where more upgrade will be added to the car? Double-wishbone setup?
Cheers

Before anyone drove the car, it was derided as being a "991.3", but it ended up being a much bigger leap than people were expecting. It's a substantially better car in every way. The wider front end changes things up. All 992s have PASM. The optional Sport PASM is excellent.
The double wishbone front suspension will be what distinguishes the GT3 cars from the rest of the 911s. That's not going to trickle down to other 992s.
If you already own a 991.2, it really comes to your own personal/financial circumstances.

I think it would be hard to argue the 992 is not "better" than the 991.2. Porsche re-invented the car, added new technology and features, and it represents a pretty substantial leap forward in the 911's timeless design. As alluded to by @detansinn , much depends on one's own personal circumstances. Like probably a lot of 991.2 owners, I've played around with the 992 configurator. The car I specced comes out around 125K; I don't have/need a lot of options. (I was perplexed you could order an S with an MT, but if you wanted Sports Chrono, you had to get the PDK? I found that odd. Anyway.)
Flipping my car (base '17 C2) for a '22 992 would cost me a wad of cash. The good news is my car might be worth close to what I paid for it in 2019. Is it worth it to do that? Would my driving experience actually be that much better? I dunno. I'm finally at that point in my life where I can afford it, but do I need it? I'm still on the fence on this one. A faster 992 would probably get me in more trouble; I have little enough talent that for the street I find my car fast enough (not a track or HP guy). I like cool tech as much as the next guy, but the features don't really do it for me, as a sports car.
Bottom line since my CPO warranty goes for another two years past this August, I'll keep my options open and see how my 991.2 ages. I like buying off lease cars, so maybe a CPO '20 or '21 992 S/MT is a possibility.
Good thread. I'll be very interested to hear from other 992 owners on what they perceive as the pluses of the 992 over the 991.2. I'll probably learn something.

I pulled the trigger on a 992 not because it’s so much better than my 2018 GTS cab. The crazy used car market is putting close to what I paid for the PDK GTS cab 2 years ago AND the there’s a relatively small add’l cost to get manual 2021 S cab has made it an easy decision for me.

Every new GT3 has been historically better, if not it’s a failed mission. The key most will not extract the performance, but it’s fun to say my car is faster (:

I like them both in proper spec. I would’ve been happy with either. Waiting on my 992 base to be made now cause I couldn’t find a 991 I liked for a reasonable price.

I personally think the 992 is a better car.
I drove a 991.2 GTS and a base 992 back to back and substantially preferred the 992 in most ways and they weren't far apart price wise.
992 Carrera 4 should be here in a few weeks. Can't wait.

I had a 991.2 Carrera 4S and now a 992 Carrera S. I absolutely loved the 991.2, such a great car but if I were to be completely impartial the 992 is a better car in almost every way.

Let some of the pros help clarify the technical differences.

Think about it this way, 992 is better than 991.2. My experience is it is not night & day better, but there is solid improvement in every way.
Used car market is going crazy, cost of going from a 991 to a 992 now is not bad at all.
You just have to wait....I'm told 2022Q1 delivery....

I had a 991.2 and had no intention of trading it on a 992. Then I took one out on a test drive on a lark. Now I have a 992. Just go take one out for a spin and see if it’s compelling. No harm, no foul.
