Very nice. So this would allow you to remove the existing tweeter and plug this in and you are done? You are doing a beautiful job just wonder if upgrading in a GTS is even worth it since the car is so loud - in a good way

I presume these are Dynaudio M102 tweeters. If so...yes. I have a Turbo with aftermarket exhaust and the clarity of the high end still cuts through quite nicely.

These are actually built for us by Morel of Israel. The Dynaudio versions were great, but these are better balanced for the car.

Haven't posted an update on the progress in a few days since it's been a little busier than expected, but we got quite a bit of work done on the amplifier mounting system. In fact, it's pretty much done.

We have a good amount of gear to fit down in the bottom of the boot, and unfortunately it won't all fit in a single layer — we need to stack. The DSP and the 4-Channel Mosconi amp go on the bottom and the 5-Channel floats above on hand-built aluminum risers. The whole assembly is perched atop a high-density polyethylene substrate that bolts into the car with factory hardware. Finally, three braces/handles are made that will eventually support the false floor that covers this whole assembly of components.

We'll need to get all of the wiring run before this can mount in the car, so that'll be the task for the rest of the week. Power, signal, and output all need to run into the boot. More soon!

super nice work and setup!

I looked at your website but could not find the tweeters you show above. Can you PM me how to order and price?

The website is out of date — on my very long to-do list, lol.

The tweeters for the 992 are not available just yet. The photos I shared in here are the first I've posted so consider that a "soft announcement" if you will. Our 992 Development car will be here next week, so we will have another post with information on that soon. I would estimate that the tweeters will be ready to pre-order within a week and shipping in 2-3 weeks. The Stage Two and Three amplifier and processor upgrades are going to follow a week or so behind those. I'll post a link up here when I create the development thread next week.

Great thread, I’m not an audiophile but this is fascinating. Would love more of this type of content…
Patiently waiting for your next update

Progress update!

We've got the amplifier rack finished and prewired to install in the boot. This takes a considerable amount of time since we need to label everything and manage all of the wiring to make it serviceable.

Once it was all prewired we took some photos of the whole assembly.

There's one main connector that creates a service disconnect for the system. If the amplifiers and processor need to be removed for the car to be serviced, it's as simple as unbolting the assembly and disconnecting this harness. We'll also have a quick-disconnect for the main amplifier power leads.

After getting some photos we test fit the assembly in the car so we can start getting proper wire lengths.

That's it for now — more this week!

I love this. You know at some point it’s gonna need to be serviced and you took your time to make it that much easier for you or whoever will do that. Impressive and I can’t say enough about your cleanliness on all the wiring management. Bravo team!

Do those interior panels snap back together as tightly after the install as when the car left the factory? Seems like there may now be a lot of potential rattles.

Are you sure nine zip-ties are enough for that cable bundle?

Very nice write up and pics.
A couple questions.

How did you know the mid-range speakers would fit behind the door cards?

Since you're using the stock head unit (Porsche PSM made by ? Blaupunkt ? Alpine ? ? ?) is the five grand the owner spent on Burmester totally wasted?

Thanks.

You're not too far off. Most of what we consider "signature" series projects at Musicar are roughly in the 20-30k range. Some more extensive projects have been double that.

Absolutely. Better, in fact.

Porsche has spent countless hours of warranty tech time tracking down rattles in their past models, so with the 991 and 992 they made the car much more R&R friendly. When we do this type of work we actually tighten up loose hardware and create tighter tolerances with the sound damping, so we're actually getting a more secure fit than before. A good shop will also replace any compromised clips when reinstalling panels.

Good catch — we should double it

We've used this midrange in previous 992 projects, so we had some insider knowledge. The first time, however, we had to take measurements of the factory speaker and do our best to stay within those parameters.

Yes, the $5k spent on Burmester is a waste. It's a shame to lose that investment but it's also a shame that a $5k option from Porsche doesn't perform better than it does.
