What the heck are these dealerships doing to these cars. They need to tape off and protect the rest of the car. You should go back to the dealership and get them to fix that.

Looking for an update from others that have done this. Really nervous about the dealer outsourcing this replacement to a body shop and scratching the car. Have you guys insisted that they use the appropriate protection of the surrounding paint?

Thanks

they’ll get a specialist glass replacement company to do it, which is what you want. There’s really nothing special about the 992 windscreen.

Reading through this thread gave me anxiety. I’ll be at the 2-year mark in 40 days and my rubber molding still looks good as new. My 992 has always been garage kept and under a car cover the vast majority of the time while I lived in California; garage kept without the cover now that it’s stored in Nevada (…only uncovered because I haven’t thoroughly washed the car). It’s crazy to hear how common this problem seems to be. I had this occur on one of my M4’s and the dealership replaced it.

I've had the same problem 8 months in, both front and rear seals melted. i got the dealer to replace them under warranty, they also replaced the glass as part of the job even though it was good.
After the replacement the seal is perfect, i've gone 290kph, no wind noise.

Knowledge is power. Politely ask them to be careful as you have heard of scratches when they saw through the seal.

Can anyone confirm if this is still being done? I was at my dealer last week and they mentioned in passing that it was a good thing I had the replacement done, because Porsche is no longer authorizing it as a warranty issue.

I had mine done about 5 months ago. If what your dealer is saying is true, that's a crock of S. When your $150k - $200k+ car has window trim that deteriorates in one year much worse than on a 20 yr old Hyundai, they better wake the F up and fix it.

Word - car was actually in because of an exhaust rattle that returned (PSE was replaced < 2 years ago under warranty for it) - but now since I've hit CPO, "sound issues" are not covered, and since the valves still work, warranty will not cover a repair. Oil leak over the passenger side turbo is also "just a seep" and "within tolerance".

Oh well, it was the excuse I needed to get an akrapovic.

Just last week, my SA at the local Porsche dealership pointed out the seal getting soft on my 2021 C4S. He recommended that just before my warranty runs out to get it replaced. He indicated it is a very profitable warranty item for the dealership as once they replace the windshield they also are have to mess with the radar device. Since they are touching and recalibrating the radar device, they also have to re-align the car since it is 4WD/4WS.

Yup. My car definitely needed an alignment and it was great to get that thrown in for free when they replaced my windshield. The windhield itself also had a few chips that I had repaired so extra bonus there too.

Hard to understand why Porsche can't get this right. It's been happening since 991.1. That's more than 10 years...

Nothing. it's always a sublet that's doing the work. Dealers usually go for the cheapest bid for max profit. Sad I know. That's why I try not to have them touch my cars.

If you tour the production line at Stuttgart you will see the windshield is installed by robot. Very few stage is fully assemble by robot in the line and glass being one of it. I don't care how good the local installer is but can't beat the original glue applied by robot. Not trying to make you worry more than you should but just sucks for any repair that causes more problem.

Different story in atlanta. Perimeter Porsche ? in house and the replacement is the best I've ever seen. Zero hint of anything ever being touched. The glass is broken to remove so you will always get new windshield. Make sure it is Porsche glass (Pilkington, etc.). They didn't even hesitate on the repair. Knew of the issue and I had car back in 8 days.

thanks to forum likes this, and threads like this one, more awareness is all we can do until a bette material design is done

I suppose to have a clean borderless windshield, this is what they’ve done up with

as long as Porsche keeps warrantying, which they’ll do, that’s all that can be done

i don't see this issue in the Ferrari cars we do, but they have a totally different basket of treats to deal with 😊
