Driving new car home from dealer with salt on roads
I should be picking up my new C2S from the dealership this week, and in NJ there is still salt left on the road. I am **** about my toy cars and do not drive them until the roads have received some rain to clean off.
The dealership is only 3 miles away, but I just gotta take it for a nice ride when I get it.
Obviously I will hand wash the car off when I get home, but I am more concerned with the underbody of the car. I don't think one long ride will be a problem but who knows. Is there sufficient corrosion protection on the underside of these cars? I plan on keeping this car for a long time and don't want any issues 10+ years down the road. I do not think one long ride will kill the car, but as a new owner I am going to be overcautious and over paranoid about my new dream car.
Thoughts?

Sounds like your new car is already giving you more headaches than pleasure... try to enjoy it... driving on salted roads a few times is PERFECTLY FINE

Congrats on your new car!!! Any chance the Dealer will let you keep it at the Dealership until the roads dry up? No idea what your weather forecast is, but if it's going in the right direction, why not ask?

You're over thinking it. Just enjoy the ride home! I picked up my C4S from the dealer in December (last year) as well.
This is my first 911 and I also plan to keep mine for as long as I can, but still bought winter wheels for it and enjoy it year round in New England.

Thanks! That is gonna be a tough wait as rain is forecast for the weekend. I realize this is probably the best move, but I just can't wait knowing the car is ready. (yes I am a lot older than 12 yrs old lol)

Just wait to pick it up? Temps are climbing on the east coast and there is rain forecasted almost every day next week. Snow should melt, roads will be washed off somewhat by the rain. Otherwise, most car washes have an underbody spray, go do that next opportunity you have (roads dry). you can also buy an underbody washer that attaches to a pressure washer for like $30 on amazon if you are really worried about it. One thing I wouldn't do is let it sit covered in salt spray for the rest of winter.

Have them flat bed it. They went overboard with the bleed'n salt with this rain event

Just my $.02, but I’d junk it. It’s spoiled. Or sell it to me for 25% off.
It’s going to be crazy warm in NJ on Friday. Go for a long drive. Get salt everywhere. Smile. Listen to loud music and louder exhaust. Be happy you’re alive and can drive a Porsche sports car. It will be totally fine.

It’s a car, drive it and then wash it. Or have it driven directly to a PPF/coating installer and let them do their magic for piece of mind.

I'll come flat-bed it to your house for you. (read: drive it like I stole it and if you're lucky I'll drop it off)
It will be fine. Clean her up when you get her home and try and drive it after it rains or the slush has dissipated a bit and just enjoy it.

We had our Macan delivered (flatbed), no charge, but that was because the dealer is 100+ miles away and we didn't want the risk of stone chips.
However, as others have said, these cars are pretty well protected and Germans drive their cars in winter. Germany uses road salt, too.

Pick her up Friday!!! It's 53 degrees, sunny and no rain that day. We have 0 snow on the ground and honestly haven't even noticed too much salt yet. I'll pick it up for you and I'll even break it in for free!
