Default some thoughts on 1 week of 992 Base Carrera ownership

Some initial impressions after a week of 992 Base ownership. This is my 3rd Porsche, first 911, and first factory ordered Porsche. I spec'd it as a comfortable daily driver along side my S6, and in that respect it's an unusual build for a Base, with $32k in options meant to make it the more affordable comfort/luxury variant of the 911 range.

-the Base for me feels plenty quick enough for street driving, and I've owned and driven much faster GT Porsches and M cars. It's right-powered for the street
- the Base has a very civilized ride, it's perfectly suitable for daily driving for a sports car/GT type driver. I have 20/21 wheels.
- It is somewhat noisy, the youtube videos don't lie. It's fine as a daily as long as you aren't expecting a luxury car experience.
- sport chrono adds a lot to a PDK base. Highly recommend. Use it every time I drive
- Burmester sounds amazing . Sure the car is loud but you can still appreciate it. I only spec'd it because Bose was not available at the time but now I'm glad
-18 ways are very comfortable, but no more so than the 4 ways in my GT4. Main benefit for me, seat memory.
- full leather with deviated stitching lifts the cabin a lot but not sure it's worth the money if you're on a budget
- the break in is not as hard as I thought, there is plenty of fun to be had below 4k and at least on the street it takes effort to exceed 4k and stay legal
- the PDK is a delight, this is my first non manual Porsche and I can see the appeal. Don't miss the manual certainly as a daily
- the steering wheel blocking the outside instruments is a glaring design fail and shame on Porsche for letting that out the door.
- Very little brake dust compared to other sports cars I have owned, either that or the Carrera classics hide it well
-glass sunroof is nice but again if you're on a budget skip it it doesn't transform the car
- no squeaks or rattles so far
-a couple of surround camera glitches caused the cameras to show as not available when I went to park
- apple carplay seems very reliable and stable
-I opted not to PPF or ceramic coat the car. I realize this will cause some rennlisters to lose sleep. It will be OK. The more precious I treat a car the less I enjoy it, so I'm going to accept chips and dings, although I rarely get them in my cars in part due to the climate where I live and favorable parking at work\ and home
- adaptive cruise works very well.

Overall really enjoying the car so far. My poor S6 hasn't been driven this week. The Base makes a very fun daily driver in the right climate.

Solid review! I’d agree to almost all of your bullet points minus the dash gauges, which seems to bother a lot of folks. I was a tad worried about that from all the reviews, but with some time behind the wheel now, doesn’t bother me as I only use the RPM/fluid temps, and those can be seen clearly.
Maybe the sunroof - I really enjoy all of the natural light that the roof allows in. Not the best place for weight on track, but a solid trade off in my opinion.
Congrats, and enjoy!

Drove my base 21 to work yesterday. It never fails to put a smile on my face. I adore this little car. Yours looks great!

Nice review. A totally agree with your statement "the more precious I treat a car, the less I enjoy it". So true!

Yesterday I took my car onto a busy highway to run an errand, and I was nervous about chips the entire way. I did not let myself enjoy the ride. I almost can't wait till I get my first mark on the car.

Congratulations on the car! Your review resonates with me as I picked up my C4S last week and drive it as my daily. Also did not opt for the PPF with the same thought process. Why worry about **** you can't control and just enjoy!

It's a car, enjoy it for what it is. Far to many people here seem to forget that.

I use it a lot, works great, unfortunately not customizable. I fantasize a future software update will enable customization but who am I kidding, it's not a Tesla.

I've never heard a 992 or any 911 owner bemoan that his P-car is not a Tesla. "It should be Thank God it's not a Tesla!!"

Before PPF I sand blasted the rear wheel wells doing donuts in the snow, I got scratches when I had an off at the track and ended up in a bush, and got rock chips from frequent road trips. For me, PPF is exactly about worrying less and enjoying it more.

Glad PPF is working for you and if I lived where it snowed or was planning to track or do long road trips I would have considered it also.

Indeed. By the time that you're exploiting the extra power of the S/GTS or heaven forbid a Turbo/S, you're going triple digits and risking jail time. I'm guessing that a Base will feel quicker around town than a GT3/RS, too, given their respective power bands.

I've found cabin noise to be highly dependent on road surface. I had the displeasure of driving on 880 today and I could barely hear my stereo while one could mistake the noise level for a Toyota while driving on 280.

I haven't seen a standard interior up close but everyone in the know that I've talked to said that it really cheapens the interior experience.

It's a delight to me, especially when paired with Sport Chrono. Normal for city driving, parking lots, and highway cruising; Sport for on ramps, off ramps, and passing; and Individual (Sport Plus) for mountain drives.

I still need to figure out how to turn adaptive cruise on. Thankfully I don't have to deal with stop and go traffic very often.

My second car is an Audi as well and I assumed that it would split daily duties with the Porsche pretty evenly but I'm picking the 911 every time now unless I need to transport the dog, cargo, or a bunch of kids; or go to a sketchy neighborhood.

You are going to protect it with something though, aren't you? THAT will cause me to lose sleep. LOL

In all seriousness, nice review. Cheers!

Remington, with reference to interior noise, with which tires was your car delivered?
