Question on Dealer Markups When Placing an Order that I Configured
Hi all - I once owned a 996 Cab, sadly sold it as the family grew. Now my kids are high school age and can drive themselves. My daily driver is a Tesla Model Y and I am also the happy owner of a 2014 Cayman S, but I want to upgrade a new 911 T. It will be my first time buying a "brand new" Porsche. I have a car configured just the way I want it in the configurator on Porsche's website. After I configured it, the site directed me to connect with a local Porsche dealer. I spoke with them today. They do have an allocation available to place an order for a 911 T, but they told me they are charging a $10,000 markup to place the order. Is this the norm? Or are there dealers who will just place the order with no markup or a more modest markup. I'm not in such a rush that I would want to just hand over an additional $10,000 to the dealership without exploring my options. I would be willing to order the car through any dealer in another part of the country. Depending on location, I would just go there and drive it home, or I would pay a shipper to bring it to me.
Apologies if this topic is addressed in another thread - I did run a query to try to find one before making this post - any guidance the community can provide will be appreciated!

Yes. It is the norm and I think you're actually pretty lucky your local dealer has an allocation for the specific trim you've configured
For further info please search ADM. There's probably a new post about this topic once a week.

Dealer markup is dealer dependent. Being in CA, it seems most are doing ADM, still. You’re certainly able to reach out to other dealers. Porsche North Olmstead in Ohio sells out of their territory frequently.
I think you can find MSRP if you’re willing to put in the work. That being said, Porsche CFO said in May 2023 they’re doing a 4% to 8% price increase in the 2nd half of 2023.

For a T with a decent turn around time, that is a worthwhile ADM, especially since you probably don't have the sort of relationship with the dealer already, multiple purchases, a 991 or even 2 year old 992 to trade in. A lot of folks are waiting 18-24+ months for allocations on waiting lists, and many of those are still paying ADM or being required to buy watches and what not.

if you look for threads using the term ADM (additional dealer markup) you’ll find a lot of info.
short version is if you want it now you’ll need to pay markup (10k is probably about right) unless you happen to stumble into some lucky situation. MSRP dealers do exist but will have a waiting list. The predicted wait time isn’t going to be all that reliable due to many factors and the price of the car is likely to go up before you take delivery as porsche has been fairly aggressively increasing prices lately.
As one example I asked for a c4s at a dealer i’ve bought a macan gts at and regularly serviced a 997.2. They told me estimated 3 years. Got an allocation in about a year and had the car in about a year and a half. One substantial price increase during this time and barely missed the also substantial 2024 price increase. While I was told msrp initially, when it came time to actually place the order I was told I had to buy a watch (these start at 4-5k and go up from there) but car was at msrp.

As was previously stated, there will be a 4-8% increase in the latter half of 2023 which you will miss if you can't secure an allocation soon. This amount will almost offset the ADM. I'd give a quick search for MSRP allocations and if nothing comes up, I would grab this allocation.

As someone mentioned, the fact they have a current allocation in the model you want is probably worth the $10k. Some folks on here wait a year or two to get the right allocation and not pay ADM, then MSRP jumps up $8k to $10k. So don't sweat the ADM. I would personally go into the dealership and talk to them, if you're local they may work with you. My local dealer was asking $10k ADM when I called on the phone. After personally working with them, I ended up buying a $5500 Porsche Design watch and no ADM. If you're not into watches, I've heard others negotiating other add ons. Good look and let us know how you make out.

As others have said there is likely a price increase coming that will offset the adm. Also if you have your heart set on a T and wait around on an allocation you may miss out. The 992.2 will likely start being built mid to late summer next year. They typically don’t start with the T and will be base and S. I would call around to some dealers and see if anyone else has a real allocation. If not then I would take the adm deal. Best of luck to you.

$10k ADM on a T in CA is more then fair at the moment. However, I would investigate a little further to see if you would given a true allocation right now (V200 status) or is it a "Demand Order" (V70 status). If they can create an order in your name with a V200 right now, that would be great and I would jump on it (it is rather odd that a CA dealer has an open T allocation). In other words, be sure and do your homework with your SA to check the true availability.

I wouldn't pay any ADM. I believe T allocations are easier to come by relative to the rest. There are plenty of dealers who are not charging ADMs on new orders. Just spend a day calling dealers throughout the country and see if they have any allocations.
