Default No 992s to be had...unless you wait forever!

Sold my 991 C4S to get into a 992. Yeah right...good luck to me!
Everyone wants a deposit to just get on a list that might get you a spot in a year or so. I was targeting a GTS but might be too old to drive by the time an allocation comes up! C2S or C4S would be fine as an alternate...pretty much the same situation.
I found a new car (C4S)at a dealer in So.Cal (I'm in the Bay Area) that I liked, but they wanted $15K ADM on an already $188K car. Not gonna do that. They're also very reluctant to sell to someone out of the area.
I respect all of you that waited for 2 years or more to get your cars, but I'm more the instant gratification type. Not a good type to be in what still appears to be a crazy low supply high demand market.
Trying to figure out what I do next and will enjoy my SC and 993 in the meantime.

Look further than California. There are multiple 911’s to be had right now. There are at least 8 T’s that have not been spoken for within 500 miles of me. 4 CS as well that you can put a deposit and car arrives end of February early March. 4S as well, couple of cabrios etc.

expand your search. All no adm as well. US is not made out of California.

If you have something the dealer wants (like another 911 to trade) you can dramatically reduce the wait time without an ADM. My total wait time was 6 months from first speaking to dealer and my hand spec’d car being built and delivered to me. But, I had a 991S the dealer wanted. He couldn’t get it until I got the 992. Maybe you should have used your 991 C4S as leverage instead of a private sale? If you have both an SC and a 993 to drive in the meantime, not sure the wait is that big of a deal.

There are cars on lots now all over the place. While you can expect a wait for a custom build slot, it is now possible to buy a new one from dealer inventory. It’s also not difficult to snag a used CPO example. If you really want one, start searching.

I'm in Canada but I was in a similar situation with no allocations available at the local dealers (at least to me) and I wound up finding the right car in Alberta, I'm in New Brunswick so this is like being in Boston and getting a car from the PNW. Paid for shipping and got what I was looking for.

Unfortunately it is now too late, but in retrospect you should have considered trading in your 991 to a dealer as part of a deal to get an allocation. A desirable trade will move you at or near the top of the list, and the sales tax break will help mitigate the lower price by the dealer.
At the 188K price level, what is a couple of thousand dollars difference if you really want the car.

Did the dealer tell you how many people were on the waitlist ahead of you? Also, was the deposit refundable? Some people are opting to hold out for the 992.2 so you might not have to wait that long.

I live in the Bay Area and a $1k refundable deposit got me the 8th spot on the C4S wait list at my dealership. It only took 3.5 months before I was able to finalize my order and the ETA for delivery is mid-May.

Locally in Canada, allocations are available for anything except GT cars.

It doesn't matter how many people are on the list ahead of you - ADM payments allow for "list jumping", so its not really a waiting list at all. They have one waiting list for people at $10K over, another at $20K over, another at MSRP, etc. There is no single sequential "waiting list".

I'm a first-time buyer. I just walked in and ordered my C2S. No wait list. No ADM.

Another dealer I went to wanted me to buy a used car from her then trade it in to get an allocation. So it seems like there are places that do funny business. However, I believe that there are many reasonable dealers who will just sell you the car sticker price. In reading a few forums, it also seems that Carrera T allocations are pretty commonplace. You probably just have to check a few places.
