That's the thing. The original one goes on and off like it should. Lines up correctly with not much effort. I'll try again tomorrow with some lube. Thanks guys.

Here's the caps on my Dakar with view of inside of coolant cap - looks the same as yours.

Coolant and oil filler caps - excuse the dirt but the Dakar is my daily.......

Inside of coolant cap

My coolant cap is stiff to turn but does screw on and off fairly readily with a distinct 'click' into the final position. I've used a smear of Vaseline (petroleum jelly) on the thread to ensure that it remains reasonably easy to undo and tighten.

I’ve got one brand new, still in the box. Let me take some pics.

Updated w/ pics.

BTW, I am probably not going to install this, so if anyone is interested in purchasing it, send me a PM and I can save you a couple bucks over Suncoast. I also have the matching oil filler cap, new in box (unused). I would prefer to sell them together. Suncoast = $79.95 for both, plus shipping. I’ll let mine go for $65 plus s/h via USPS priority mail. *Lower U.S. 48 only.

That is a 991 part number for the cap?

I believe there is a 992 model.

Alllegedly they are interchangeable and that is why Suncoast sends the 991 p/n. Cost them less to sell the coolant and oil caps separately as well. The above part number is a bundle with supposedly the same two part numbers for more $.

I was thinking...no need to worry about the lube or petroleum getting into the coolant tank? It's being applied onto the threads of the cap which screws on to the "inside".

Don't have any personal experience but why not just use a dab of the coolant fluid itself to lube the threads? Might work?
