Why is the background metal section blue-shouldn't it be the color of your car?

You stopped before it clicked. It's just like your gas cap, turn it til it stops and then a bit more and it should "click" like your gas cap does and then it will line up straight.

That didn't work. No click. May be defective.

Sorry that is how mine works, I just went out and tried it again. I turn about six spins, then it stops, right where yours is stopped, and then I turn again and it clicks down with the same feeling as my gas cap and lines up straight. I got mine from Suncoast. So yes it sounds as if maybe yours may be defective.

When I checked my coolant, I too couldn't get the cap to seal right. For my stock coolant cap and I assume for your upgraded one, you have to REALLY twist super hard to get it to click. When it does click, it will be parallel to the oil cap. I had to force it so hard that I thought I was going to break something or break my fingers before it finally clicked into place.

Hmmm. Maybe I don't have enough finger strength but I really don't think it can be closed any further. It took a massive amount of work to break it loose after tightening. Does yours come off without a hitch?

If you get dried coolant on the thread it's a royal pain to twist or to remove. I sprayed a tiny bit of wd40 on tread and cleaned excess dried coolant and it worked like a charm with smoother action for screwing on and off.

Mine was on super tight as well. I think I had to use a mallet or something to knock it loose and putting it on took as much force to make it click. I tried 3x and literally thought I was going to break something before I got it to click back into place on the 3rd try
