Default Car in storage couple months / Battery dead

Hey all -- so I had my 992 in storage since December 7th. We are moving house and the new place isn't ready, old place sold, all our stuff is stored. Since it's winter anyway, I rented temp garage space near by. Went to visit it for the first time since then yesterday and the battery is totally dead.

I bought a jump start box -- the Gooloo one others have recommended here in related threads and watched a few youtubes on how to jump it / seems straightforward enough.

The question is, what do I do after it starts? How long do I need to run it before parking it again to allow the battery to stand on its own again? I plan to run it at least once a week now, to avoid this happening again.

Thanks

Are there no outlets for you to plug a maintiner/trickle charger?

Idling the the car from cold just to charge the battery is like, the worst thing you can do for your engine.

When you get the car started, go drive it for an hour and then park it again. Do that every time. Minimum 20-30 minutes of driving; not idling.

With that said, you should just find a different garage so that you can plug in a trickle charger

If you're set on the current garage location, consider one of those lithium battery "generators" as something that you can plug the battery maintainer into. You'll have to recharge the generator periodically, but it should be able to run the maintainer for a good while in maintenance mode.

You really can't leave a modern vehicle idle for much longer than 3 weeks in the heat or the cold. There's too much drawing power even when the vehicle is "off" and locked. I wouldn't rely on a half hour drive every few weeks to keep the battery state of charge health. Maintainers on everything.

Amazon Amazon

You'll need to charge the charger itself periodically but it might be a good solution as a maintainer.

There are solar powered battery chargers if that's an option. If not, I would do like mentioned and get one of those giant battery hub things.

Starting it and lettting it idle isn't enough to be honest. The car has one of those smart alternators, so it's not even charging all of the time while out driving around to save on gas.

I do plan to take it on a road trip for an hour or so, and I'll pick up that rechargeable maintainer / that's a great idea. Thanks all!

Make sure to lock the car, even while secured in a garage. The battery will just eat itself alive otherwise, I’ve learned this the hard way too.

As stated above, those lithium power boxes are the way to go. The trickle chargers actually draw very little current in steady state. Buy one, charge it up, bring it to the garage and plug the trickle charger into it. Its has a charge percentage screen on it, see how far down it drains after a weeks time and figure out how often you have to recharge it and bring it back to the garage.

I'd get the battery fully charged somehow (doubtful you can do that just driving an hour or so) and then remove the negative battery cable from the battery once parked.

Which model has a storage battery built into the charger to run it for 3 months?
