911 Dakar rear view mirrow mount loose
Hi all, has anyone heard about issues with the adhesive of rear view mirror mount, specifically on 911 Dakars? Mine has become loose after 70 miles, the entire rear view mirror housing is no longer attached to the windshield. At first I thought it had something to do with window tint install, but apparently a few other Dakars in my area have experienced the same issues according to dealers I asked. The cause (according to dealer) is likely the thinner glass they used for Dakar. Is this a known issue acknowledged by Porsche, and is there a fix for it? The last ting I want is for the windshield to be replaced, and the same thing happens again.

Seems like failing adhesive. I had a similar issue on a Dashcam, replaced the adhesive pad with something stronger and hasn’t budged since. Dealer fix if convenient or disassemble and see if you can resolve at home with a similar solution.

Dealer said the only fix is to replace windshield. As the adhesive only comes with the windshield from the factory. Some special adhesive? Idk. Doesn't sound like I can just glue it back up tho.

Supposedly the mount should never come off the glass, they porbably use some very strong adhesive for that. That's why I was wondering if this is a Dakar specific issue

Why would the Dakar use a different mount adhesive than any other Carrera?

Dakar does have thin glass in USA, that is correct. Personally I would try to avoid swapping out the windshield. Instead I'd have dealer take the mount apart and use a different adhesive to sort it. I can't imagine is that difficult.

Same issue with my Carrera T
Just noticed the same rattling issue with my new Carrera T, which covered 4600 Kms. Plan to meet the service personnel this weekend. May be the thinner glass or defective adhesive

Final update: windshield was replaced under warranty. Four wheel was also performed as I was told dakars’ alignments can be off from factory (don’t know about the details but my dealer has done a few dakars). There has also been a recall for front and rear windshield, with no fix from Porsche.

Sorry for off topic but I see your roof is perforated, very cool, my Dakar has the Race Tex roof but is not perforated - I didn't get to Spec my Dakar but didn't think this was an option, only seen it on Targas.
I'll have to check my mirror in mine and make sure it isn't doing that, and I also heard about the recall for windshields but hopefully not allll of them are affected..
