Truth be told, this is a problem for your own kid to solve. They can figure out how to clean the paint. They can search online, stop in at an O’Reillys or auto zone to get what they need to fix it. Or they can simply take it to a detailer and put it on Mommy and Daddy’s credit card — if that’s how you guys roll. Frankly, the elbow grease and “solve it yourself” mindset will do the kid a world of good.
Just as many of us love being lectured by old liberals.

Many of us disagree on politics. At least we can agree (for the most part) on cars. Probably better to talk cars.

As a registered Independent, I have the glorious advantage of not caring about either extreme.

Baloney.

The OP used an accelerant after his first post #1….in posts #6 and then again in post #10.

As I said, twice, if one wants to go there, that’s 100% on them….. but he/she should then be prepared for push-back.

Just read this post, this is hilarious, and tells us what's wrong with the younger generation. Dad, it's not your car, your son is an adult, let him figure it out himself. If he can afford a Porsche and University on his own, he can afford to figure out and take care of his car. On a side note, I had the son of prominent Billionaire play on my hockey team who drove a Corolla. I asked him why he drove such a ****ty car, he told me he grew up being chauffeured in a Rolls Royce, and now doesn't want to attract attention to himself, and also was worried about being kidnapped.

Touching up eggshell damage won’t look right

itll Need a proper repaint, and if this becomes a recurring problem, make sure to ppf the car…it would have helped with the egg damage and saved repaint

where are you located…PM if you want to send it to us and we can take care of repaint AND ppf

I don’t see the practicality/utility of having a car like a 992 in a college environment??

Status symbol aside, it’s essentially a two seater that WILL attract attention - both good and bad. Not to mention, the urges of a young adult to show off to his friends….gee, what could possibly go wrong, while out for a Saturday evening spin after a few drinks at dinner? My two boys had beater cars while in college (after their Freshman year)….gave them piece of mind from the car getting dinged, scrapped or broken into.

there are many 992s in the both the graduate and undergraduate parking lots at Stanford (you see one driving on campus every 5-10 minutes). Look at EVGR and EA parking areas.

even a couple 992 GT3 with PTS in the expensive on-campus dorm garages; granted, they park on the bottom floors away from others

whereas downtown Palo Alto is more of a Tesla and Cayenne fest

Many 992s on the campus drive loop every 5-10 minutes on Stanford campus? That's completely untrue. Stanford is not SoCal. Most cars there are low key, other than Teslas, which are extremely common. A few engineering profs may have 992s at Stanford, but most don't even drive them to campus often. It is extremely unusual for either a graduate or an undergraduate Stanford student to own and "park" a 992 on campus. Don't forget to note that I specifically state "992" models, and not older Porsche 991 / 997, Cayman/Boxster, or Macans / Cayennes, which are obviously more common.

the fact you mention professors as the primary demographic for driving 992s (MY2020+) on private school campuses tells a lot…

Hint: they put professors in the same garage as administrative and janitorial staff

OK to finally put an end to this, I hereby inform all that these are the vehicles I owned while in college

1960 Corvair
1961 Buick Special
1967 Mustang 3 speed

In my senior year, I took a loan and bought my prized posesion, 1968 Roadrunner which I drag raced on weekends with my wife's cousins at Hawaii Raceway Park.

I shared a 2 bedroom with 3 other guys, worked two jobs and my father couldn't have cared less when my roommate borrowed my car and forgot the put the handbrake on resulting in the car rolling back into a wall. The closest I got a Porsche was a poster of a 908.

Let your kid sort it out and let's move on PLEASE??????????? We really don't care how many 992s are at Stanford or any other college, since it all depends on "context".

I don't disagree, but is there actually an environment where you can see the practicality of owning a 992? Enjoyment, yes. Practicality, that's harder to argue.

On a side note, I don't care how big an *** someone may be or how "objectively" disgusted you might be by their politics and opinions, nothing justifies vandalizing property. That's just purely for selfish self-satisfaction and now the perpetrator is no better than what they think of the target. And as much as I sometimes hate listening to some of the vile nonsense that can come out of people's mouths these day, their right to spew that nonsense without fear of physical retribution (against body or property) is one the core principles that the US is founded on and that I value dearly. [**note this is generic statement about vandalism and I am not taking a position that the OP's son is or is not an *** or that anything he said was or was not offensive.]
