Back to air-cooled is not realistic, so:
- more agressive body look, wider fenders, bigger wheel arcs.
- more agressive sound to mimic air cooled one
- make it lighter than 996
- less cluttered instruments (basically back to 993)
- 993/996 4s type rear wide reflector/taillight setup.
Mostly based on my preferences and driving experience with 996 Carrera 4 and 996 TT.

No more flat bonnets as well, lets see that lovely air vent depression like on all previous 911s.

- better quality plastics
- do away with the fried egg headlights.
- Offer a ClubSport version that will not cost an arm and a leg like the GT3

All mentioned above sound good, here's mine suggestions:
- Lighter
- smaller (996 is too large)
- Lights more like 993 (as they will be)
- Mirrors as in 993
- Stripped version model
- No bumberettes
- Tranny as in Euro model
- Suspension as in Euro
(there has to be way to awoid these three above
)
- More noise
- and NO cupholders!

jes999,
I don't think Geoffrey was referring to the performance of the 3.6l in the 996 but to the use of a less robust version (mechanically) of the boxer 6 in the Boxster and the 996. The TT, GT2, and GT3 use a mechanically stronger version of the motor. This is important for those who wish to take their cars to the track for substantial 'high wear' use and for extended life (250,000 miles) that keeps some 911's on the road for decades.

a factory and widely available RS and/or low option lightweight version. Improved gear ratio options and more of a race car like dash and spartan interior. Oh almost forgot, less than $40k please...

Okay, I will bite.
Give me 350 HP minimum (V8-H6-either)
6 speed manual of course
Full width taillights
Keep the back seats in place
The 993 style headlights as mentioned
Lighter weight of course
The 2002/2003 3.6 996 exhaust note is fine
A "renn sport" version would be nice
Give me the option to delete any electronic gizmos
Option in 19 inch wheels
Sport suspension option w/ FOUR adjustable perches
Price it under $69.9K
Extend the warranty to 3 years

Better quality of materials and contruction, including fewer rattles would be a big plus.
