Default Let's Play.. NAME THIS PART!

Hi guys, out for a nice drive today car performed flawlessly as usual. Got home to cool her off by opening up the deck lid and like usual I do a visual inspection of the engine and belts etc... so as I am looking around low and behold below the A/C Compressor in the engine tray (Thank God I saw this) is this round piece of metal about 2.5in or so in diameter. It looks like it clips into something..not sure. So I get my trusty grabber claw and fish it out. Now... I recently had the old motor mounts replaced with RS Mounts and 30K service was performed. I can't see where this would have come off from. Any ideas??? Thanks!

The part covers the access hole for the nuts that secure the engine carrier to the motor mounts.

WE HAVE A WINNER! I was kinda thinking this so thanks for validating! Guess it came loose and popped out. Weight reduction! Both access holes are open on both sides. Didn't see the other one floating around but will double check. Any concern? I am guessing not

p/n 999 507 429 02 "verschlussdeckel" in English "lid" should have spring steel clip on one side with ends extending through slots to hold itself in place in engine mount nut access hole. Probably helps keeping dirt, water, muck out and nut free from corrosion.

look down in the rearward part of the engine compartment on the left & right you will see a matching hole in the bodywork.

Can anyone comment on the necessity of replacing these when they come loose?

Yeah I see them. The other side is open as well but couldn't find the other metal plug for the hole. Seems up high enough to cause for any concern. Doubt water for debris getting up into the hole from where it's positioned.

I believe mine are long gone, tens of thousands of miles of testing seems to show that they are unneeded.

note the cheesey adhesive (black schmutz) applied to the disc in a failed attempt to keep it in place.

I recently replaced my engine mounts with a pair of Wevo blues. There was a solid layer of grease and dirt on the underside of each of the lids. Worth the trouble and effort IMHO to clean/replace, and keep that dirt from creeping in there.

Seeing that the metal clip that holds them seems to fail and then one has a loose metal part floating around that can get in the pully well wouldn't it be worth finding a rubber body plug that fits in the hole instead as a replacement?
