I think JPS's build sounds pretty good. I know if I had the engine apart to this level I'd be replacing at least as much as he has. I think in the long term. If I'm going to do it, I'll do it right so it'll last for myself (and my children, and my grandchildren).

The slip-in vs bore is a tough decision and I'm sure he made the best decision he could based on his research and mechanic's advice. Personally I would have probably gone with the bore in, because I trust SteveW and I wouldn't want to have any doubts whatsoever after the fact. 2k is expensive, especially when added to all else that needs to be done, but for me it would be worth it.

I do understand the need to draw the line somewhere, however.

I'm sure the final product will feel fantastic and I can't wait to hear about it.

Yes, I have a 22 year old picket fence around my yard. Over the last ten years I have replaced three warped fent and one post of the twenty or to in the ground. Fence looks great keeps the dogs in the yard.

OK, so the valve was just the last kick of the bucket on an engine that was unable to function and not have blue smoke, ignition fouling and emissions issues.

Do you have to take you entire yard apart every time you replace a picket or post? If a picket or post fails, could it potentially destroy the entire fence?

This analogy is starting to feel a little stretched. Back to 993 engines!

This is, as usual, an incredibly stupid discussion.
