A very, very nice C4S w/ 47K miles was bid up to $70K on ebay the other day. Pretty good indication of where the market actually is. Asking prices are meaningless.

Yes, exactly. $70K was the highest bid. That is what the market deemed this car worth, at this time, on the Ebay marketplace. $70K is pretty far shy of six figures, and this was a nice car in a desirable color. The auction suggests 993 prices have cooled off a bit.

All the best to owner and the Gooding and Company auctioneer. A 1 owner, 15,000mi with a unmolested original condition is attractive "For Sale" chum. .. These specific aforementioned attributes play well in an auction atmosphere, no? ..
As for the '97 C4S auction coupe itself, its plain-Jane base C4S model production build specific's dampens the mood - I'd think. ..
Had this C4S been spec'd with Full Leather, Heated Hard backs and a full list of expensive production options,,, and the stars would be aligned for a high, exaggerated sale price. My $.02

I'm looking for a low mileage C4S or 2S, and this particular color is my favorite.
I contacted them and have a couple options to bid remotely (not ideal but doable). However the 10% buyers fee added to a near 9% tax, is a bit steep regardless. May have to pass.

I have been watching the 993 WB market assiduously for the past three-quarters of a year.
Here are a couple of similar cars and prices:
C4S Arena Red with factory Aerokit (which I don't care for) with about 17k miles sold for just under $100k;
C4S Arena Red with factory Aerokit with about 17k miles HASN'T sold for ask ~$114k;
C2S Glacier White with some nice options (but I don't believe HB seats) with about 25k miles also sold for just under $100k;
C4S Dark Blue with 16k miles HASN'T sold for ask ~$117k;
C4S Arctic Silver with 22k miles and factory Aerokit HASN'T sold for ask ~$117k;
C2S Silver and black with under 20k miles (don't recall exact) was offered by an individual for about $114k and a dealer bought it and is now asking more than $130k;
C2S blue with grey interior with lows 20k miles didn't sell for $102k until the dealer above bought it and is now asking something like $120k;
two more C4Ss in silver with miles in the low 30ks haven't sold for asks ~$102k - $109k;
My guess is this Goodings car with 15k miles may clear the market around $110k - $115k, perhaps more if there's a frenzy.
In my opinion, you can get more for your money with mileage of 25k - 35k and be less concerned with driving them. Of course, if you're simply looking for a GQ/MP, doesn't really matter.
Perhaps we shall see with this one. I would say the 10% buyer's premium should be a deterrent to peak value.

There are a few nice ones out there in the $80-$89 range. One listed here in the classifieds for sale at Switch auto sales in Ohio. Good luck.

Triple Black and Factory Aero........get with the program, or does the novice buyer want to pay all the auction fees? I know this car....it is one of the great ones available! No ticket? No classic!

Ha, no novice buyer here. Gorgeous car but I wouldn't do black again, no way. Too many kids, too many finger prints.
But I'd do white, maybe (guards red or yellow). Easy to clean up and forgiving to little fingers.

Tony: Comment not directed to you....you are "older than dirt" when it comes to P-cars...not sure why some cars still available when buyers "want it all" and then pass when "reasonably" priced....just one example of a better car for less money than new one in my opinion. Maybe Gooding knows more than we do? Lets hope so....I believe the 993 is the new "long hood" and near original condition cars can still be had before spending long hood restoration money. New car horse power is great, but just how fast can you really drive in today's world.

Understand Tony but there's nothing like perfect Black Mirror Paint to accentuate the beautiful wide body of the 993 C4S.

Historically, interest rate increases are the end of any asset bubble. It is the opportunity cost of money that results in speculators selling when demand and prices stabilize. This happens when interest rates rise and there are more profitable places to invest. Speculators determine future prices not we gear heads. If there was a way to short the collector market, I'd be all in and I'm not much of a risk taker.
