Tach-Speedomenter - weird
Morning!
I've been reding posts about but have a more specific question:
My tacho-speedomenter would act weird:
- It is not counting the miles so have drove the last 30 miles and the total would not change;
- Speed: speed works properly even if sometimes the needle would get stuck on zero until a I gain more speed;
- Revs and all the rest work;
Replacing the full component is definitely expensive;
I was thinking of replacing the drive gears. but before placing the order and going through the process wanted to understand if, given my issue, is the right thing to do.
Any other check to do?
Again, speed indicators works 95% of the time properly. It's only the mile counter not working anymore.
Here below the pelican parts link for the drive gears.

Race Car
Odometer gear has failed. Very common. Gear is inexpensive and a simple DIY or can send out.

Burning Brakes
One of our fellow forum brothers, Bill Calvin, has repaired and refurbished lots of these. He did mine after gear failure- more economically, turned it around in 1-day, works perfectly.

I did the gear replacement as a kitchen table job years ago, not a big job. Just make sure you find the broken tooth from the one small gear the came loose as if left in the housing you may end up revisiting the repair.
