Default sealed sub enclosure

I just wanted to post some pics of one of my winter projects. Last fall I re-did the sound system in my cab. Part of the project included a pair Rod Birch's 8" rear footwell subs. While they were great, my 4 year old complained about losing foot room in the back. My solution was to make a fully enclosed subwoofer using a shallow 10" driver that sits behind the driver's seat. I got the idea from a company in Canada that had made a one-off enclosure for a 993 several years back. The results are fantastic and I am able to put the drivers seat all the way back with about 3/4" to spare. If anyone is interested, I can share the process in further detail. Well worth the effort. Additionally, I will be selling my old subwoofers (used for a few hours) in the very near future.

Awesome! I really want to do a custom setup like this.

Which JL driver is that and how much power are you hitting it with?

Did you 'engineer' the volume of the enclosure at all, or is it merely sized given the available space?

How is the fill/directionality of the lows with the sub placed there?

Apart from the MDF ring is the whole box fiberglass or is the top half a resin-impregnated fabric?

It’s the “10TW3”. I engineered it as best I could. It requires 0.5CF. I’m really close. Their technical department stated that if I was a bit shy it would be alright, providing I had enough power.

Im running a hertz 5 channel amp. Into 2ohms, it’s putting a little over 400 watts into the driver out of the fifth channel.

Sorry for missing your other questions:

the entire enclosure, except for the ring, is fiberglass. I used the fleece with resin method, then layered fiberglass on top of the fleece after. I am still tuning the entire system. I will say that as far as performance, the sub in the footwell is not the best location. But there are always compromises. The base is extremely tight. In the upcoming days I will be dialing it all in with the amp adjustments and the speaker comrossivers to get it where I want.

how are you controlling the porting? I don't see a vent pipe and such a small enclosure would compromise low frequency performance.

Is it open behind the speaker and above the rear seat? Dipole?

It’s not ported. It’s fully sealed. The driver was designed for a very small enclosure.

I have posted my Car Audio Innovations rear sub enclosures for sale. They are Cashmere and include (2) Focal Performance P 20F drivers. Please let me know if anyone is interested. Extremely lightly used as they were only played for a few hours (late September 2017 until late November 2017).

additionally, i also have a plug and play streaming device for the becker CDR-220. I purchased it last year before I upgraded my sound system. I bought it from Discount Car Stereos and will take any reasonable offer for it. The model number of the device is "A2D-BKR Audio Streaming Adapter for select Becker AUX Ready Radios"

Or contact Car Audio Innovations directly. https://www.caraudioinnovations.com/ Talk to Rod Birch, he is the original designer of that particular enclosure, he probably still makes them.
