Default 993 might be a 4S, Copart in Van Nuys

https://www.copart.com/lot/23600269

VIN WP0AA2991WS320469 Needs some love. Has a claimed 28,000 miles. Looks like it sold in Colorado recently at auction at $63,500. Currently has a bid at $63,500 in Van Nuys. Anybody know anything about this car? Listed as rear-wheel drive, (when sold in Colorado it was listed as "all-wheel drive")

It's a C4S with what appears to be a factory aerokit. Can just barely make out a red caliper in one of the pics.

Also, don't forget that the "rear-wheel drive" listing may mean
- the wrong box was checked on a listing template
- the car has been converted from AWD to RWD
- the lister just doesn't know the car is an AWD from the factory

Salvage title. Too much $ for a branded title imo even with the low mileage.

Insane that someone would pay $63K for a car that probably needs $20K in bodywork (engine out, Celette bench, etc). Then you've got $83K in a salvage C4S that was hit hard when you could have the same car for the same money without a salvage title or accident history. Makes no sense.

If you Google the VIN for pictures, you end up seeing pictures of the same? car with far more damage.
Weird.

THAT IS INSANE MONEY for a salvage title! Miles don't matter when you need that much work. WOW!

Weird.
Yeah, there is something weird going on here. When I googled the VIN, I found pictures from Insurance Auto Auctions Inc (through Hemmings) dated 6/1/18:

It looks like the same car, but the damage is pretty different from the pics from the auction that's happening right now. Did they fix it then munch it again? Or is it a different car???

These are the recent auction pics:

Heck of a job with the paintless dent removal tools! Buyer beware on Copart. I have bought several cars on Copart. You need to personally inspect every single car. Only buy cars listed by insurance companies. 3rd Party sellers are a huge risk. the yellow car is case in point. Nice find on the earlier photos. Wow. Be safe my friends. Phil

This. Insurance cars, torn down and marked with grease pencil, are the only safe purchases. The 3rd parties who buy a Copart car, drag it to their shed, beat the panels a bit and then run it through Copart again are the ones to watch out for. This is exactly what happened to this car. The only way to figure it out was to run the VIN and hope that a prior version of the sale was cached somewhere. Unfortunately, after several YouTubers revealed this technique, Copart has recently started redacting parts of the VIN. It's still visible in the photos but the search engines are no longer able to pick up the listings, leaving us all in the dark on the prior sales.

The technique mentioned for buying cars on copart, fixing them up a bit and then flipping is called (by a friend in the business) "putting a wig on a pig."
