Economics of a totaled 993?
So I've been watching this 993 on IAA. I had designs to buy and repair it and keep it.
It a 1 owner C4S with 46K miles.
The insurance company valued it at $95,500 with a repair cost of $72K.
I was hoping I could buy it for $30K - $40K.
I'm located in NY and the car was in MI. So only had the pictures to go by but I figured with a repair estimate of $72K there must be some structural work. Maybe the frunk tub or a frame rail or the wheel well structure.
The car ended up selling for $56K all in?
What is the buyer going to do with it? I can't see it generating that much money parted out with a profit margin no less.
If someone is going to fix it I can't see fixing it for less than $10K to $15K. Is there a buyer for this car at $70K to $75K considering the history?
If the damage is purely cosmetic and just a hood, fender, bumper cover, headlight, paint and air bags, why would the owner let the insurance company total it? He obviously loved it and took care of it and only drove 2K miles a year.
It just doesn't add up for me?

Having owned a 993 for 20 years and seen plenty of 993 crashes at the racetrack, it is clear that this tube is majorly deformed on the right front. That is a difficult thing to fix. In addition, the right front suspension components and structure (tub) are going to be heavily damaged. I personally would not even bother with it even if I would buy for $30K. You are better off letting that go....believe me!

993 and 964 on iaa bringing crazy money , it's cheaper to look outside the action this days you can find much better deals !

Part it out. If the Engine is good, that will bring $ 15-20K alone. The rear wheels are worth $ 200-500 each. the Transmission is worth a few thousand and the front seats look good- those could bring $ 1-3K. 50K seems aggressive- but who knows.

I don't know, fix the body clean it up strip it out and sell its parts and park it in one's driveway as a true poser car! Kind'a like what they do with old fighter jets on pedestals in front of Air Force offices.
