cup II valve stem question (TPMS related)
Background first: I have a 987 Boxster and am fitting Cup II wheels on it (I know, strange, but looking forward to the look and the better ride than the 19 inchers I have now). I ordered replacement (for a 2008) TPMS that came with metal valve stems - as one would expect. I was about to install these TPMS sensors onto the Cup II wheels but then had second thoughts as to whether the metal valve stems would work. These valves + sensors physically fit. But I'm not 100% sure that the shape of the hole opening on the inside and particularly the outside (tapered) is OK with metal stems or whether I would need rubber valve stems. See photos below.
So my questions are:
1) Did the Cup II wheels come with metal or rubber valve stem seals originally?
2) Has anyone added TPMS sensors to your Cup II wheels? If so, which valve stems did you have/use?
Thanks!

IMHO, not enough of us have installed them in our 993s.

Can they be retrofitted and if so how?

I have a Vesafe system in my SUV and it's great, but these valve cap types have two massive shortcomings: on a small car with 25" tires, these sensors look huge, a total eyesore. Second is that adjusting air pressure is a total PITA. So a setup with internal sensors would solve those issues, but typically the display for those types is the huge eyesore. We need a setup with (1) internal sensors, (2) small display, and (3) reliable.

So long story short, the lesson learned for me here is to go to the experts first as opposed to trying to figure out everything myself. I took my Huf RDE001 TPMS sensors that fit a 987 Boxster to Discount Tire. They immediately said that these won't fit on a Cup II wheel that is designed to have rubber valve stems. Both the inside and outside surface where the sensor mounts need to be flat. The good news is that they had in stock Shrader TPMS sensors with rubber valve stems that can be programmed to work with my Boxster. (Now I have a set of Huf sensors I will return or sell). Installed my 'new' wheels and tires on my Boxster, went through a learning procedure, and the sensors work great! Here are some photos of the finished product... a mix of retro & new!
