Default Most Complete (Public) 993 Turbo Cabriolet List

When the 993 was first displayed at the Geneva Motor Show in 1994, MAHAG executive Fritz Haberl was so blown away by the Cabriolet version that he immediately began talks with Porsche on building an extremely limited Cabriolet-bodied turbo 993. Since there was not going to be a 993 turbo engine until model year 1995, it was decided that the M64/50 3.3 Turbo engine out of the 964 Turbo would have to be adapted for use on the new chassis.

Porsche agreed to build the cars if Haberl could secure ten or more buyers at a price of DM246,000. Ultimately, he found 14 worldwide. Numbered 338501-338514, they were all designated as production vehicles by Porsche, given their own production designation type 993630, and certified for road use in 1995. The first nine were LHD and the last five RHD.

Every example was built to customer specification and no two are the same.

Below is a list I have compiled over some time from various sources of the 14 993 Turbo Cabriolet, the most complete I can find anywhere public. I have been able to match pictures of 11 of the 14 to their corresponding VIN with a fairly high degree of certainty, the ultimate goal being to find pictures of and match all 14.

I hope you all enjoy and find some value in this project.

Thanks, this is very cool. Interesting to see there look to be at least two color changes. The Amaranth violet and grey car was apparently changed completely to yellow and black. Also variation in badges - one “turbo 3.6”, several “turbo”, several deleted..

Thanks! Initially when I started compiling the list I wasn't able to find any information on the actual spec of each car. I had no idea where they were or what colors they were, so I had a few unidentified pictures, such as those of #7 that I found early on but couldn't link to a VIN. I also found the pictures of the yellow one and was able to determine it was in Hong Kong from context, and found VIN #10 on a list of VINs published on a Hong Kong government website relating to recalls on the convertible top latching mechanism, and so had a mini 'aha!' moment and linked the two that way. Later when I finally stumbled across the spec information, it threw me for a bit of a loop. We had to reorder some of the Brunei cars, and look hard at the HK cars to figure out if the yellow one was really #10, or if #11 had been repainted since it had Black Full Leather originally. I decided to keep it there as that VIN was the only one that showed up in any HK records I could access, and I have no information on where #11 might have gone.

Thanks for pulling this together. Always cool to keep learning more history on these cars. Interesting to see that some have the rocker panels found on the 2S, 4S and Turbo bodies while others are like the C2, C4 and Cabs.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately I found that website very early on in my research, and they have incomplete data, mostly involving pictures of the cars. I believe they only have photos for three or four of the cars. It did save me a lot of time with those, and did enable me to match pictures of the other cars to their VIN.

Personally, I never liked a big whale tail, especially on a convertible, but to each his own. Since you say there were only 14 made, I'm sure they are highly, highly collectible cars

Very much so! 338505 sold for €1.34mil at RM Sotheby's Paris 2017 and 338509 sold for €680,000 at RM Paris 2018, so I doubt they'll be going down much in value soon.

That link is strange. That is a NB car but it has a turbo badge and no engine pictures. I thought the WB was required on the factory 993s to fit the turbos, piping, hardware, etc.

Factory turbo narrowbody cab? Strange.
