New 12 Qt. Boxes of MOBIL 1
Apparently MOBIL 1 has taken a que from the wine industry and is now selling all their various weights in 12 qt. boxes. WallyWorld has them for $55 which equates to a $ .50/qt. savings. Other brands will undoubtedly follow.

Are they doing the 5W50 flavor this way too?

No, not a 12 pack of 1 qt. bottles...This is a plastic bladder with a spout just like boxed wine only bigger. Not re-fillable. There's no "sight glass" so you'll need to keep a record of how much you take out as you do. I plan on keeping one of my empty 5 qt. jugs, filling it and using it as a means of measuring. As for weights offered, I only saw 0W-40. I'm sure they will offer all the popular weights. This a real boon to me since, with 2 MINI's and a Macan, I go through 18 qts. just like that. Sure hope Brad Penn will do this so I could do the same for the 993's and the old cars.
Just found this UK video on their 20 liter box:

I recall Steve Weiner, Jeff Gamroth, and others "in the know" recommending and using 15-40 weight in our air-cooled street cars, given usual outside temperatures? Aren't these lower viscosities also more prone to leakage?

might want to ask that question in another thread...this one appears to be about the 12 qt. jugs of oil.

Known as eco boxes in the industry. Shops have been using them for years due to the proliferation of grades and specs.
Most shops hate them because plastic bladders can never really be emptied completely and the card box often gets soaked with oil as well in shop rack use.

I've had a lot of practice with boxed wine. You just open the box, take out the bladder, clip it so the petcock is at the very bottom, open it and let it drain for awhile into a small container of your choice, in the case of wine, into a glass. (fsa, I'm not advocating for 0W-40 in our 993's. I, too, use 15W-40 Brad Penn in ours.)

How much money do we save for this 'convenience'? A few bucks?
