Hmmm. Every single time I let mine sit for longer than a few months, within 20 seconds or so the lifters start clacking until they repressurize. 10 minutes of driving and it purrs like a kitten again. I'm sure after 7 months the ticking would be noticeable. Maybe my 993 is just noisy....

I've only had one occasion where I started mine after about 2 months (I done this probably 10 times) and had the "tapping" noise. It then went away after about 5 minutes. Not sure why it did it that one time, but I was kinda freaked out when it did...alas, all was fine!

What you cannot see is what this does to the internals of the engine - yes no visible damage from the outside, but an engine that was cold started after several months of the oil wicking off all the contact surfaces, like the camshafts, will have accelerated wear. Essentially for the first few seconds many rubbing surfaces are wearing with little or no lubricant.
This sort of wear is incremental, and having seen scored camshafts and bearing wear, it does happen.
As far as noisy lifters go, they vary a lot - I think it depends on how worn the sealing O rings are. I have replaced plenty where the O rings are completely missing, they had broken up and were washed away. Those lifters typically are noisier because they leak so much that it's harder for them to pressurize.
Cheers,
Mike

Drifting
Mine has sat for three years now, but plan on driving it this year - I'm sure the lifters will be noisy!
Been too busy driving/enjoying the other cars when I do get the chance to drive the sport cars.
