So I own a handful off P-cars, but never a 993. A friend just emailed me this car he is ready to buy and is asking for advise. I'm not qualified to do so, but it peaked my interest so I'm posting it here. Seems like a lot of $$$ to me, but hey, what do I know....

ChequeredFlag is not bashful about asking for all the money, but I am not sure how often they get it. I have watched 993s at CF for years and have visited the place several times, despite it being on the left coast and me on the right.
That car, with those miles, should trade around $100k - $110k, max. But the 993 market has picked up pace and demand since the pandemic started (contrary to intuition).
If your friend is looking for a great PPI place not far away, I recommend Red Line Service (http://www.redlineservice.net). They know air-cooled Porsches inside and out and are very thorough and straight shooters.
Have your friend reach out to me if you/he/she wants.

Could be that with the stock market being so volatile and likely to take a hit before this Covid nightmare is over, some people see collectibles (hard assets) as a preferable investment these days.

Agree w/ TheBen that this car is $30-40k too high. That Arena Red is worth no more than $85-$90k. Yes, prices have gone up (same car 6mos ago is $5k less).
If OP's friend really likes that car and no other can do and it's now or never, then offer up to $95k. Anything north of that, he'll have over a few month's time a handful of other equally or more desirable specimens for $5k to $10k less (in other words, back to $85-$90k range).
For reference, check out this one:

Believe it or not, if memory serves, asking price for this car is about $12k less 6mos ago.
At >$120k, we're talking about rare color (Rivera Blue, Vesuvio,...) and perhaps odo no higher than the 20's.

Race Car
OP: FWIW - Buddy of mine was searching for a widebody in this price/condition range and had his son drive that car - kid lives in LA. Said it was very nice. But it was his first experience in a 993. So grain of salt. Month or so ago.
Given my friend's experience if one is looking for a low miles (under 40K), wide body with a solid history it's a pricey time to buy. He looked for a while and didn't see anything in the $85K-$90K range. But $123K is too high as well. I think we concluded that $105K was probably the O/U on what it would take to get a good car. He finally wore me down and bought mine which I mostly regret although I'm glad he's happy. . .

FWIW, a buddy of mine just bought a very clean 95 C2 manual for $50k.

From my own 3 year search I found that despite Hagerty valuations that look reasonable, for a head-turning car, with desirable options, in excellent condition, mechanically verified sound, and colors other than the usual silver/black/red, you will pay up considerably. It's only $. The seat time will pay you back.
Attachment is Hagerty values for 1998 Carerra S.
Despite carrying a version of this as a negotiating starter, all cars I would want went for considerably more. The generic looking, low optioned cars were plenty and lower priced.

I looked at a 993 at Chequered Flag years ago, circa 2006. It was a beautiful Aventurine Green, I really love that color and inquired several times about the car, in person via email and over the phone, mostly asking questions about the service history and whether or not the top end had been done. Every time I got a different answer, from, no, the car is perfect, it needs nothing and has not had any major work, to yes, the top end was done with all the receipts available (never saw them), claimed head machining and new valve guides. It was never consistent, so I passed, as I just didn't trust them. They did have some nice looking cars though, just do your homework and get a PPI.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them; ask for Marc and let him know the guy who bought "Dean's red 993 C2" recommended him.
