Boge vs Monroe

Hey Guys, question, Im going to piece together the M30 suspension kit and I noticed there are two different part numbers for the shocks, one Boge, one Monroe. Is there any difference/preference to which one to use? Also, are the Euro springs as stiff as the H&R ones? I would like to go as stiff as possible, but obviously cant afford the complete coil over kit.

My advice is don't waste your precious money on the OEM shocks, they are crap! Either get Bilstein HDs or spring the extra for PSS9, which is probably your real solution, if you weren't trying to cut the cost.

FWIW, I think Maurice offered you very sage advice,....

Given the limited performance and lifespan of any of these OEM shocks, and the labor required for installation, cornerweight, and alignment, its much more cost effective to consider investing in either Bilstein HD's or a coilover kit.

In the long run, you will have spent less money and you will much happier.

Point taken. However, Im a tech a domestic dealership, so i would do all the work myself, including align, balance, etc. I can get all the parts at dealer cost (which is why i was taking the OEM route) WHere do I find the Bilstein HD's to compare prices? I think I see them in the P.P. catalog, under the H&R springs, and Coil over kits. Are they just inserts? or complete strut assemblies?

p.s., ive built/had several 911's in the past, but this is my first venture into the non torsion bar cars!! Thanks for the help..

Hey Kim - couldn't you just use different spring rates in the back for a lighter 993 - if so, Stephen probably has those available at his shop.

Kim - you are correct - this is off his 993TT that met an untimely demise. He carries all sorts of parts though and I would guess he would work with the buyer to get them what they need.

I thought my ears were burning. HA....Yes, you can use a different spring rate. These are basically Bilsteins with Mode goodies. They are not to aggressive, but DO make the factory stuff look like it should be on a Honda. No offense Honda owners.

Wow! That was fast. Yes. They both have front and rear monoballs as well. The front plates are fully adjustable as well.

thanks guys,. Im going with the Bilstein HD. Runs out to be @ $300.00 more than factory stuff, from what ive heard they are worth it.

i've used the bilstein setup before and I just recently installed the koni shocks in the front. I must admit that I really like the koni's. They are much cheaper than the bilstein shocks and are adjustable and all around better. The only problem is they discontinued the rear!!! I'm still looking for some rears (If i can find some I'll have them rebuilt). So anyone that has a pair send me an email.

Did you install Konis in the front of your 993 or 964?

I had thought Koni's front shocks for the 993 were just strut inserts, not the struts, so installation required cutting, gutting & inserting the Koni into the oem strut. Is that incorrect?
