As Mencken said, democracy is the proposition that the people know what they want, and deserve to get it good and hard. That's CA in a nutshell. Morons voting to raise their own taxes to fund govt mismanagement and profligacy. Here in LA they've spent billions building a light rail system that nobody rides. I see the train cars going by every day with a couple of riders on them. They're spending another $5 billion to connect the system that nobody rides to LAX. Someone please tell the LA government that southern CA is very spread out and people here have to drive to and from their destinations, we don't live in Manhattan.

Default Eagle County - Vail, Colorado

The 993 coupe has a Vail, Colorado ownership/registration since new in October 1997. .. Never an inspection, ever, and dirt cheap annual registration fee. 2019/2020 fee, $31.55 (generic plates)

Absolutely stunning, this can not be argued with, but for a net exodus standing at 203,414 (2019) citizens, excessive cost-of-living has hit a tipping point.

Sorry typing was off $19.00 per thousand so at a valuation of 45k over $800 per year. Providence over $26.00 per thousand. Each city in this blue as blue state just rapes you

Mass is actually not bad. It’s a local excise tax. After car is 10 years old, the value is fixed at 10% of original msrp, for life. Paying $116/year.

+1

We just moved to GA from CA and paid $3 for the one time Ad Valorem tax plus the $20 tag fee on our ‘95 993. Plus exempt from smog checks. A pleasant surprise considering we’d become so used to the $600 annual fees back home.

Cheating on tax bills is common practice. Also registering your cars out-of-state. Why not, let the other guy bear his responsibility and yours.

If you can live with yourself (many are just fine with it), great, until you get caught.

Hi BSO,
I am a member of half the citizens in our country who pay a net income tax to the Federal Government, tax paid minus benefits from paying.
Hey, I don't cheat, most folks who pay taxes don't either. Here in Verginny, in past years, one declares the value of online purchases and the calculated use tax owed on an honor system. I make a significant effort to calculate this and give the state a few hundred dollars in use tax it adds up to.

This doesn't mean I am happy with being in a high-tax state where my representation is dubious and the value proposition for society in the taxes I pay is unclear at best.

Why any state has any cars that are exempt from smog testing at this late stage of our climate crisis only serves to inform that our country truly has abdicated any true leadership in the world.

Like everything else these days, we’ll just kick the can down the road and hope somebody else cleans it up. That’s the new way of doing things around here, apparently.

You do realize the very state you live in does not require Smog checks in every county. Chew on that for a minute.

BSO question. Are you suggesting that the starter of this thread was cheating on his taxes In any way shape or form ever as it relates to his Porsche?

Perhaps if climate change is your real concern, then Porsche 911’s - especially early cars should cause you to break out in hives. Better to put your money and taxes towards a Taycan or similar electric (only) and walk the talk. Otherwise it’s just politics as usual.

Not singling out anyone in particular, it doesn't sit well with me when situations like what you wrote about exist and they happen every day.

As far as taxation and representation, well, it has little to do with Porsche 991s, starting a discussion about that is fused dynamite waiting for a match. Take that argument to the voting booth, I am.

The OP wrote that the "DMV finally caught on..." they reassessed his car, he hadn't been paying on actual value. The only mention of 911s he made was its new assessed value.

So you can ask yourself the question you have posed to me, how does OP's tale relate to Porsche cars?

I responded to what OP posted.
