Door striker/latch rattle
My door striker/latch rattles over bumps. What’s the best way to fix it? It started after I got the door adjusted (the hinges were sagging, and door latch was adjusted).
the screws are tight, so I assume maybe the white plastic is worn? Or maybe I should push it in more? Currently the door sticks out a tiny tiny amount so there is some minor room for adjustment
I saw the door striker repair kit on FVD which basically is just the 2 white plastic bits. Has anyone used that? I also saw they sell 2 gaskets a 1mm one and a 2mm one. If I bought those which one should I use? Or how do I know which one?

You gotta just eyeball everything. It's all pretty simple. Make sure your hinges aren't worn (what do you mean by "sagging"?). Make sure the door gaps between the edge of the door and body are consistent. Then look at how the latch mechanism on the door clicks closed over the striker. When closed, the door should be flush with the body. I'm still worried about the "sagging hinges" because that's not really a thing, and so I suspect you may be now trying to fix a problem that is downstream of the original, real problem.

I think the pins were worn. There were quite a few other issues in the car that needed to be fixed so I forgot to ask details about what exactly the garage did. The door used to not be aligned. He aligned the striker, but the door then dropped a bit when opened which he said was due to hinges. He then fixed that the next day.
Anyway, since then there is a rattle from the B-pillar. And it almost sounds like it is exactly from the striker. The other option, could the rattle be from a worn out door seal? The door was misaligned for a long time before fixing, so maybe the door seal is now just super compressed the wrong way? Or would that not really cause a rattle?

Hi NK993
I would think if the latch capture part on the "B" pillar is adjusted properly it compresses the rubber seal around the door slightly. When the door is closed this compression causes tensioning against the latch and eliminates any rattles from any play present in the latch connection.
Also, I would think if a door is hard to close because it appears to sag and it takes high closing force to, in essence, pull it up into position when it strikes the latch it may suggest the hinges should be looked at for adjustment or bushing replacement.
Hope this helps,
Andy

Thanks Andy. Ya that sag was exactly what was happening, and I guess it is fixed now. I am going to try pressing my shoulder against the door while driving to see if it helps the rattle. If it does, looks like another $200 spent on door seals

Before you buy any replacement door seals:

Look closely at the plastic that is sandwiched inside the striker. I had an '85 Carrera that had that plastic crack right where latch post is captured, and it rattled quite annoyingly. I replaced the striker to solve the problem.

Ok so it wasn't the seals. I am now moving onto option 2 of the striker plastic as Alan suggested.
I purchased the striker repair kit that replaced those 2 white plastic bits and I also purchased the 1mm and 2mm gaskets/shims. I have no idea what the gaskets/shims are for or how to choose which ones I need. Anybody know?
