I've spoken to Steve Wong when i ordered the chip, hopefully it will run leaner than the protomotive tune that is on the car currently. Will put some fresh fuel, oil, inflate the tire pressure and heat up the cats when i go for a pre-test to get a better baseline of where im at.

Thanks everyone for the help! great community on this forum

Put up a WTB Bischoff factory cat. I’m sure lots of folks who went aftermarket still have their original cats collecting dust. Or see if you can borrow one local to you.

You're running a larger displacement engine with an aftermarket tune and tiny catalytic converters. Even if you thoroughly warm it up, you're still likely to fail a sniff test.
-Get bigger catalytic converters (stock). This will give you the biggest gains to your issue with HC and maybe CO2.
-Detune the car if you can to make it not run as rich.....or risk running a methanol mix fuel to reduce the hydrocarbons being pumped through the engine.

It's quite likely your friend got the car smogged through a "hook up" (illegal smog black marketer).

It's not just the cat, it's also the cams. RS cams are damn near impossible to pass CA smog with...

I have a Bischoff stock cat in my attic if you want it. I would just send it free but the damn thing weighs a ton so not sure how much too ship it.

PM me your address and I'll find out how much shipping would be if you want it.

The "ball" end on one side may be a little out of whack so clamping on the right side muffler may take a little patience but the cat itself should be fine.

You'll fail the dyno test until you:

1. get the factory exhaust and cats on the car
2. Get a tune the hobbles the engine to the right AFR / timing to allow it to pass. The Wong (911 chips) may do that, it may not, it may be better to do a dyno pull with AFR and timing so Wong can create a custom chip for you. yes, more $.

Don't fight it, it is what it is. It will cost you. Welcome to Porsche.

Then you can go back to your hot rod.

Advice: Don't do any more smog checks until you get this sorted, and, ensure the visuals on the engine look factory. Last thing you want is to get sent to a ref and have their fist up your ***

It’s not really want you want to hear, but the least expensive long term way of ensuring your ownership of the vehicle, is to register it elsewhere. The headache of taking stuff off and “if” tune isn’t viable long term. Registration can be done, you just have to work at it at first. It’s a win win since you’re already going through the effort for Cali.

I really appreciate all the help from this wonderful community. I will install stock cats when i get that. I installed the Stevewong chip, hopefully this tune runs more lean than the protomotive tune. The car currently has fabspeed maxflo muffler, would fister lll be any improvement? The car did not come with the stock mufflers. My buddy says i can do a pretest before the actual smog test to see it'll pass. Do cops give people a hard time with out of state plates?

muffler won't make a difference. And you don't want your car too lean either. Technically, there's a 6 month period where afterwards you're supposed to register your car if you live in CA. But, most cops won't be bother unless you're driving like a jerk and give them reason to throw everything at you. Ex. TJ Hunt was explaining in his last video about his Murci

I can tell you that enough people in CA have been doing this to get around CARB laws that the CHP has started looking for people who do this. Punishments are severe, too. You could get your car impounded for it.
