it is funny I get compliments from all ages every time I drive it and the other day had a couple teenaged boys stop while I was doing a wash and wax in the driveway to say how great it looked. My own kids, 17 and 20 that have been around the car most of lives absolutely hate my car as does my wife. Works for me, all for me

I can relate to all this. I've gotten thumbs up from teenagers often when driving around or stopped at a light. My daughter though doesn't like the oil/leather smell and so won't ride in it. My college age son though didn't have much interest when he was younger, but that changed recently so I've been teaching him to drive a manual. Probably reducing the life of the clutch but I figure the memories are priceless for him. Next up is to have him change the oil to really get the full experience.

For about $500-$600, there're driving schools that will teach manuals, so no need to sacrifice your clutch for it.
And, the oil/leather smell is part of what endears the car. Well, in your case, at least only the son cares for it, so when that time comes , there'd be no fighting the will...

My neighbor's boy is far too young to know what a Porsche is, let alone a 993, but he's about 4-5 years old and is clearly enamored of my C4S, even if he gets a bit intimidated by the growl it makes when I start it. His Mom told me he calls me "Fast Car Guy".

I gave him Hot Wheels for Xmas and I think he's hooked

I'm 25 and have been driving and working my 993 for the past 8-9 years. My dad had a 95 Guards red cab since about when I was born and he used to take me on drives at night when I was little because I would always fall asleep from the engine rumble behind me. I think a lot of people realized the car is special even if they don't know it's the last air-cooled or what that even means. It's both a car that looks older and newer than it really is.

I bought my 97 C2 recently and did not expect the reaction the one time I drove it when picking up the car to bring it home. Thumbs up along the Interstate... and a Cdn customs agent who wasn't the greeting agent came out of the office for a chat.

I've owned my 96 C2 Manual Coupe for 15+ years, and 'Yes' to all the above - great stories!

The car is a people-magnet wherever it goes.

I'm sure it's happened to many of you here: We go to local "cars & coffee" and car shows and, invariably, someone will come up and say "Yours is my "Holy Grail Car". It's just a re-affirmation that we made the right choice. We attended a "SuperCar" show at the local Porsche and Ferrari dealer last Saturday a.m. The lot was full of gorgeous exotica, far more expensive than ours. From a financial perspective, we'd be crazy not to admire them for what they represent but, in all honesty, I preferred ours to all the rest.

The 993 stands out even amongst its peers. They will never be able to make another car the size and look of the 993 due to safety regulations.

I think they could as you can still buy small cars (though agreed they never will)

^^^^ This. I understand that one of the reasons that the 997, 991, etc are big is in order to get the right proportions within the road safety design parameters.

there are a lot of other cars I'd love to have, but I'll never get rid of this one

Yes, I think in the US the nose of the car has to be a certain height for pedestrian safety; crumple zones; and I think the A pillar has to be a certain thickness.
