Default Emergency: sorry for title

Hi All,

it’s been pissing down in the UK, I have petrol in the car.

I just left home and the 993 C4 just cut out all the warning lights came on.

There is a kind of buzzing in the cabin. The engine was turning over but not firing. I’m on a red route.

Now the immobiliser is not allowing the car to fire up and is not switching off.

An hour wait for recovery.

cheers

Sunil

Car turning over but not starting - DME relay? The immobilizer not working doesn't sound like DME though.

Driving in heavy rain - possibly something with the electrical system.... Water soaking cracked plug wires? Distributor? How old is your battery - has the car been sitting around and voltage run down? Fuel pump failure?

I wonder if the car is allowed to dry, if it will restart.

Dash lit up, won't restart but cranks, all of my money is on DME relay. I think the rain is a red herring, these cars aren't sugar cubes.

Hi All,

Got car back home thankfully. Now the immobiliser will not turn off. Is that still DME related?

Also whilst the car was at an angle on the flat bed loads of water dripped our from the undertray.

What do you think guys?

Cheers

Sunil

I don't understand 'immobiliser will not turn off'. Do you mean you can't get the starter motor to turn because the immobiliser is 'active'?

Do you still have the stone-age H&P OE security system? Key fob into the slot in the dash, or remote?

So I'm also thinking DME relay - do you have a spare? Plus the immobiliser is confusing the issue because the car won't start, and so the immob is throwing a hissy-fit.

I’ve still got the put a fob in the slot on the dash. I can’t see there being a battery in that?

There isn't.

When inserted, does it bleep 4 times?
If not, it might still be disarming - if the starter engages?

this just reminds you that keeping a spare dme relay in the glove box is a must. at least it would rule it out if it isn't the relay.

Morning All,

I have found a DME "paper clip hack" on the pelican parts, I'm worried about trying it out. Is it safe?

I guess it will rule out the DME, I do wonder if my battery might be the issue, however it's a new Bosch unit.

If it does not work then it's off to Cridfords.

Cheers

Sunil

Hi All,

Just went to the car, the immobiliser light is flashing correctly. I pulled out the DME relay and put a wire around terminals as per pelican parts emergency diagram.

I heard noise from the front of the car must have been the fuel pump??

Got in the car and plugged in the immobiliser fob, no flipping luck. It will not turn off IE 4 bleeping noises and solid immobiliser light. What next??

Cheers

Sunil

Apologies Sunil but I'm still not 100% on the immobiliser.

You put in the dash fob - you get 4 bleeps?

You turn the key - does the starter engage and turn-over the engine?

Hi, put the fob in and NO 4 beeps.

Could the fob be faulty?? I will get the other set of keys and try the alternate fob.
