Default 993 wheels

I have a 98 911 c2 cab with 38,000 miles on it. It currently has 17" cup wheels. They are in great shape, but I want to try something new. I see a lot of BBS wheels and they price from 3 to 5 k for what people are recommending. CH-R, LM, RS etc. In that price range are there wheels I might want to look at? I don't drive all that hard. I only drive 3,000 miles a year only in the spring to fall. I do want something that will be easy to sell if I want to change in the future. Thanks for any and all info.

Has anybody heard of Augment Wheels?

Few ways you can fit the car.....just depends on how you like the fitment and how low your car is and how your alignment is set up

18x10 et50 which we have in stock now.
18x10 et65 which we have coming in March.
18x11 et56 which we have coming in March. (BBS lists as an aggressive "tuner" fitment)

I’m sorry but no way in hell a 10” ET 50 is going to fit a narrow body 993 unless you do some fender stretching or camber like this / \ like tuner Hondas.

Hey mpit, if you’re going for 18” wheels with 10” width, find ET no lower than 58. Lower than this you will rub. Stock ET is 65. Anything higher than this you’ll look like a USPS mail truck.

I don't know much about what you are discussing. I had a guy from BBS in Atlanta try to explain it to me. I put a new suspension on the car about 1000 miles back. B6XT with RoW m030 springs. I also had the car lowered by an inch. If that matters?

P-Daddy your car looks great. What kind of wheels are those?

Narrow body cars tend to have high offsets like et60 which means the centre of the wheel is 60mm behind the face of the brake disc where it bolts up. Wide body cars dont have wider track ( or not much difference) so when you see an RSR it has much lower or maybe negative offset. We had ET47s on our car when we bought it and they were 9.5J ( inches wide) with 255 tyres stretched over, then I found out the rear arches were rolled.

I replaced the wheels with 10J but ET65 so the centre was 18mm further inside ( 65-47) but the outer rim was only 13mm inboard ((10"-9.5")/2) and then I fitted 265mm wide tyres. So they are wider but still more tucked in.

Which 18” BBS wheels and offset would you guys recommend without having to do suspension, camber or other modifications?

I’m in the same boat as OP - 95 C2 with turbo twist wheels - but wouldn’t mind changing it out for BBS to mix things up every now and then. thanks.

Bingo!

I just had a new suspension put on 1,000 miles back. At that time, I spent $600 on a 4-wheel alignment. I'd like to be able to install new tires and wheels without messing with the alignment if at all possible.

What size tyres would you go for? 265 tyres work on 10J ET65 but any wider and you'd need higher offset.

I was told by the BBS distributor

front 8.5 x 18.5 225x40x18

rear 10 x 18 265x35x18

It also seems like he said the fact that the car has been lowered an inch, gives more leeway in offset, which didn't make sense to me. It gets confusing talking with those guys. They give you a lot of information in a very short period of time,

If I stay with a 17" wheel, will that make it easier and more for-giving in regard to tire and wheel size?

corrected your typo - the Porsche supplied 18" wheels are the sizes you need to follow to be certain your new wheels will fit without rubbing.

These were 8J ET52 (or ET50) fronts, and 10J ET65 rears, with tires as above. From experience, it seems everyone is happy that 8.5J ET50 fronts fit as well.

Obviously anyone on Rennlist who has strayed from the above will be able to share their actual success.

No - the diameter of the wheel is irrelevant. Only the width, combined with the offset, matters.

I am fairly sure that 285/30 or 295/30 width rear tires will fit under narrow-bodied arches, if on a 10J ET65 wheel of course.

Anyone like to correct me on that?

Default wheels

Mr Curry,

What are your thoughts on et 50 or 58? in the rear? It appears that that is where difference of opinions exist. The dealers stated they would be ok. Others who surely sound like they know what they talk about disagree.

Does the fact the car was lowered an inch enter into the equation?

btw, thanks for all the info and opinions everybody has shared

Sorry to but in but Mr Curry is dead right.

I did the man maths below and looked up the "max width" for each tyre/rim combo and then subtracted the offset of each rim.

So my old RS reps on the top line with narrower rim and and tyre have 90.5mm of poke out from the hub. This appears to have been acceptable on a NB lowered car with rolled arches. Not ideal. So we could say that 90mm of poke is about the max.

Next rows I show the figures for BBS.... but upon googling I found Maper Performance list an ET65 So the ET50 /10J has 93.5mm of poke which I reckon is dodgy and the ET56/11J cant run the 265 tyre, you have to get 275s so they poke out 96mm so that even worse, but, the ET65/10J on the popular 265 tyre has only 78mm of poke, so its the same as the stock turbo twist style.

Finally I show the 18 turbo style twist OEM wheel and given the ET65 you can go up to 275 and still only have 86mm of poke so thats still less than make old RS replicas.

I hope that makes sense.
