Default Foam cannons - anybody use one?

Foam cannons seem tempting.

Hooking up the pressure washer is a PIA.

Any use a hose driven unit with good results?

It seems a lot easier than the typical bucket/rag technique.

About 50% of Amazon reviews are fake, so I don't really trust them.

Foam cannon?
No.

how difficult is it to use a bucket / "rag" / soap?
I've enjoyed doing it that way for many years.

pressure washer?
why?

I have had one for a few years... Purchased on Amazon for about $40. Chemical Guys brand.
I've had to replace the O ring inside the gun but, otherwise, works pretty well.

Hooking up a pressure washer is a PIA… really? My 2000psi electric has wheels and weights less than 30 lbs. Adds less than 10 minutes to set up and clean up time. Benefits the condition of your paint, which being a Porsche owner performing your own washing, you must care about. As usual though, to each their own.

yes, I use one, works great and adds a layer of protection to the car when washing. Also, does a great job on the wheels.

I've been doing the two bucket system for 2 decades but always willing to consider better alternatives. Have my eye on a bunch of ammonyc stuff right now because Larry seems a good dude to buy from. I like his youtube content. I finally pulled out and used the Porter Cable orbital polisher I bought in 2001 or so and was too scared to use because of Larry's stuff making me comfortable (and I bought my 16 year old an old accord with crap paint so I had something to learn on). Results are great

The thing I can't get my head around on the foam method is not rinsing off the grit first. Not sure I trust it

I am reluctant to use my pressure washer in general on the 993 because:

- more likely to push water under the windshield seals

- at times, it will knock off a wheel weight

I use the two-bucket method along with a pressure washer and foam cannon. Does Larry (AmmoNYC) not rinse off the with a pressure washer before foaming? If so I'm a bit confused as to why.. It only takes a couple minutes to rinse off grit with a pressure washer before foaming and would prevent unnecessary micro scratches.

OP I'm with @Gasgasrider I don't know what pressure washer you own but many are compact and very easy to set up; well worth the extra effort to prevent swirls and scratches from the traditional sponge/bucket method alone.

actually went back and looked he does suggest a rinse but also says there is no need with his stuff. I thnk I'd rinse then foam regardless

I use this one:
Amazon Amazon

It's currently 33% off, so $19.99. Have had it for 3 years and it's still 100% solid. Also a lot of fun :P .

Like many, 2 bucket method from 1995-2020. Since then, I'm a foam cannon convert and would never switch back. Also blow dry and no more towel drying.

Used the hose hook up one for a bit but didn't work that well. Got a foam cannon for the power washer from Chemical Guys and it works great. Hooking up the power washer can be a bit of a pain sometimes but it's worth it for me unless i'm in a real hurry.
I always pull out the leaf blower after, helps a ton!
