2nd Question on Buying 993
Thank you all for the advice. I am going to buy one. I found a 96 993, low mileage but in the last three years, it's been driven only 4,000 miles and has not had a single servicing. It was garaged the entire time and looks to be in perfect condition.
What special issues could one encounter with a 993 that's been just sitting in a garage? Also, what servicing would you do right off the bat, if you did purchase it. Thank you all...this is a great board.

If the 4,000 miles were spaced out over the past 36 months then I wouldn't worry about it at all. If they were driven in a single month and then the car sat for 35 months it would be a different story.
Seals and gaskets shrink when dry and can cause leaks. A thorough PPI coupled with a nice long test drive should uncover any issues.

Richard,
Need more data. How many miles on the car total? Stored in a clean, dry and well ventilated garage or in a car port on the Gulf? Was the 4k in the last three years put on in month's 1 & 2 and the car was just left to sit for the next 34 months?
If the car was driven equally over that period, say about 100 miles a month, that's adequate to keep the "blood flowing" and the car would suffer no ill effects.
You say it's low mileage and has not had any service in the last three years. If the car is 20k or less total mileage, there isn't a hell of a lot that would have had to be done, other than an annual oil change, regardless of miles driven.
More details, please.....

Drive the panats off the car, "Drive it like you stole it"! Personally, I klike the idea of a low mileage car.
Now join Rennlist if you have not already. It is the best money you will ever spend, most likely!

Also note that the tires may be flat-spotted if it's been stored on a concrete floor for that long. You may ask the seller to get all new rubber as part of the sale.
I hope this is the one. You won't regret getting a glasstop.
Enjoy!

that's good to here. I found a very nice targa with 69,000 miles, 1995, for around 29k that appears to have been more regularly maintained. While I would still like the 96, at that price, worth considering perhaps.

Thanks...I meant the hard-top. I just found a very nice Arena Red 993 in my area, hard top. I'm not wild about the color at all but the condition/maintenance records are really excellent.

I am getting closer and closer to getting an Arena Red. Ironically enough, I have not seen an Arena Red in person, but from all the pictures i've seen it looks gorgeous. The color is pretty scarce compared with black and silver and is classy imho. The color also varies depending on angle and light.
You can ask any Arena Red owners here and they will attest how much they love the color. I recently started a thread asking about the color and received an overwhelming reply.
