Default Ordered Porsche Classic Greens + M033 springs

To refresh the suspension on my ‘97 C2S. You all will remember me as the guy who posted twice a month for the last 6 months asking if anyone had any recent feedback on this setup. I finally just took the leap and ordered. I hope to be less annoying going forward

I will post a review after the install (hopefully next weekend). I hope it helps someone!

Moderator, please auto delete any messages claiming Porsche Classics are just repainted Bilsteins with no Porsche specific tuning at 2x the price 😂 People here like facts, not conjecture!

Thanks for taking the plunge 403, looking forward to your observations.
I'm assuming you are coming from worn out Monroes?

That’s correct. Original Monroe’s with 59K miles.

There's something we're working out - may be that the spacer needs to be repositioned to keep the springs in place with this setup. More in a bit...

Glad to hear. After the back and forth we had on the other thread I went back and looked at other posts and felt like this setup just *has* to work based on other people’s feedback. Keep us posted.

Seems like the spacer is to get moved from its normal spot to under nut #10, so the strut rides a bit higher, holding the spring in place and allowing for setting correct ROW ride height (154f / 147r). Seems like. Not yet tested...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and venture to say that, as pictured, the spacer will go under the lock-nut.The threaded collar is the only adjustment for ride height. FWIW, we installed the old M033 kit on our '95 a few years back and really like the compliant, yet reasonably firm ride.

What struts/shocks did you use?

What we're seeing is the threaded collar has to be dialed all the way back (down) to get ride height to 154, thus creating spring float (bad enough they completely dislocated from the top spring mounts during modest driving). Will report back when change results are in.

I am looking forward to the review. I have the classic greens and would like to get the car to ROW ride height. I ordered mine thru my independent. He will not install parts that he doesn't order. That way he can complain to the supplier when parts don't fit.

Are you running the Classic Greens on the standard US springs?

Staying together now with that spacer relocation. Springs are wound up maybe 12mm on the strut threads up front now. Ride height exact at 154/147mm rear.

Generally I'd say it's a great ride. If I could spec things, I'd have them a little softer, maybe just in front. She rides stiffer than my 965 which is maybe a little surprising since the M033 and new greens are supposed to provide a "factory" EU spec setup. I wouldn't expect an off the showroom car to ride this stiff (in the 90s) but hey those smooth EU roads... Maybe these are going to soften up a bit after 500 miles or such. But this change with a new set of PS shoes and new brakes and all, she's QUICK in the bends.

Feeling after some more driving - that the car got too stiff for my taste. Bumpy. I drive quick but like to also grovery-get, and drive a date to dinner without breaking her back...

Been surfing around and found an old thread containing the below - does anyone around this thread have knowledge about this? Seems it can't be 100% accurate, as these M033s I've got now are far stiffer than the stock springs were. I'd be keen to know if there is another spring that was originally installed on 993s in europe.

"M030 USA is stiffer than stock, but same ride height.
M030 RoW is same spring rate as US M030, but sits at so-called "euro" ride height (~20mm lower, IIRC...check archives, but it's close).
M033 is not a US spring. It's only RoW since it results in the "euro" height, but at the regular (i.e. softer, non-sport) spring rate. Good for those who like their current ride compliance and don't want it any stiffer, but want to drop it from the US' SUV-height."

Wicks, your experience has been unlike mine. I find the setup very compliant. Suspect it may be some other aspect of your suspension which is contributing to some general harshness. I don’t feel additional stiffness with this setup, just more planted and confident.
