Noob question from new 993 owner
Hello from The Netherlands,
My first post here (however I've been reading along for some time now and already found lots of useful information).
At the end of a long process of searching for the right 993 with many disappointments along the way, I finally managed to realize my childhood's dream. Recently I found a pristine '96 C2 in a spectacular Speed Yellow in Germany. It has an incredibly low milage (66,600 documented km's / approx 41,500 miles), is 100% original and has been extensively maintained during its former lives in Japan (first delivery) and Germany (re-imported in 2018). No matter how hard you look, you can't find any traces of wear (or even normal use) in its interior and the paint is still perfect. Just some pics to get an idea:
The 17" Cup wheels in Speed Yellow were a factory option
On transport from Hamburg (Germany) to The Netherlands
When passing technical inspection to get registrated in The Netherlands
For the moment I'm planning not too many modifications, just want to enjoy the car as it is for starters. However, there are two things I have in mind that I would like to modify. However I'm slowly getting used to these yellow wheels, it's actually just a bit too much yellow for me. I'm thinking of a set of Fuchs wheels. The other one is that I would like to install a third brake light in the roof spoiler, just for safety reasons in modern traffic. Now, the latter brings me to my questions:
Any information on this can be helpful and will be much appreciated! Greetings,
Peter

- Can anyone tell me how the roof spoiler can be removed to get access to the inner parts? It has a blank panel (black) where the brake light should be and it shouldn't be too complicated to install the additional brake light, but I haven't been able to figure out how to get there.
- Is it correct that all '96 cars are pre-wired for a third brake light? And if yes, where / how can I find the connections exactly?
Any information on this can be helpful and will be much appreciated! Greetings,
Peter

I can’t help you with your questions, but I can say that’s an amazing 993. Congrats!
Also, I absolutely love Holland. Studied abroad one summer in Utrecht, been to many a Koningsdag… such a wonderful place and awesome people.

Hi Peter,
Congratz,
The body color cover is just held onto its frame by friction clips. It can just be pulled off revealing the frame and if the two wires for the high-mounted stoplight are there. If not the rear inside deck is only held in by a few Phillips screws and the wiring harness to tap into for adding the light is there. The wires are then routed around the edge of the glass tucked out of sight at the top center the wire can be routed to the exterior through the glass sealant bed or by drilling a small hole in the body between the headliner and the roof.
Here is a posting that discusses doing this as a repair to the existing wires:

The third brake light is a simple fix, even if you need to run wires. They're likely up there already but if not, it's a simple splice. In Andy's instructions above I think he meant to drill a small hole between the body and glass, not through the body. There is ample room to get through the sealant and gasket without going through the body. I suggest you start with the LED version from Tore's site, Bergvillefx.com. It also has instructions that should explain the installation process. Good luck and beautiful car!

It's really nice.
I don't like the yellow wheels though. Not at all.
Otherwise it's perfect. Cup2 wheels are amazing. Never change mine. If I were you I'd just paint them to original silver.
Congrats for the purchase!!!

Those factory yellow wheels (if that’s true) are special.

When the decision will be made to go for the Fuchs wheels, I will definitely keep the yellow Cup wheels and store them. They are special indeed and they belong to this car. Always good to have the original wheels (just as it left the factory) when the moment occurs to sell the car, especially when it's a rare combination.

Open the sunroof crank zipper in the headliner, the cable should be there.
Factory colour coded wheels were more like this;
