Replacing Becker Radio Buttons
I want to restore my OEM radio. I quite like the look of the OEM Becker but the buttons are very worn and make the radio look quite shabby. I will probably buy a new removable lcd/anti theft unit so the volume rockers and the black bottom row buttons will get replaced with that. For the top button row (on/off, audio settings, audio channel) I thought about buying a used non Porsche Becker unit as a donor since they seem to all have the same buttons. Does anyone know how to remove the buttons? I tried to pull but they don‘t move at all.. Do I need to remove the faceplate?

Becker would fix those for you.
However, I suspect the charge would be a bit obscene - maybe I am wrong, drop them an e-mail or call, you never know. Google them and you'll get the contact information. Hope that helps.

Hi Outrun,
Perhaps some black nail polish from Target? A non-invasive approach.
If you have a girlfriend or are married you already have an expert skilled at applying it on hand.

It's a detail but I just feel it lets down the whole interior. There has to be a way to replace these buttons, but with this plastic stuff it's always risky. Very easy to break something and buying a new Porsche branded faceplate would be horrendously expensive. I guess sending it in to Becker as crw suggested would be the safest option.

Is it just the clear acrylic plastic on the buttons that has worn down? Or more than that?
If the former, I’d consider a very light sand (6000+ grit) or a good rub with a cutting cream + polish? Tape everything else up + take the unit out.
Unlikely to make it worse + might get you the results you need. I appreciate that the buttons are really, really small though 😉

I think it's the black lacquer/paint which has worn down to the white base material. I'm not sure painting would look right, but maybe it's worth a try.

FWIW, Becker is a pleasure to work with and reasonably priced. It also provides an opportunity for some subtle upgrades. For example, Becker can improve the audio internally, and run a hot wire out the back to connect to your iPhone.
