Road trip
Thinking of bringing my 95 993 from New England to its potential new home in south Florida. About 1300 miles. Direct or stop(s)?

I drove my 964 from Ft. Lauderdale back to Boston. It’s a memorable trip, and much more enjoyable if you stop overnight. It’s a few extra miles, but I highly recommend driving through Tail of the Dragon.

I drive it all the time nonstop in my diesel (well one stop for fuel). The key is to leave early enough to get past Washington DC before 7am.
In the 993 - I would go out of my way a bit and drive some local fun roads. I'd also tape up the front to avoid road rash. A route with Blue Ridge Parkway, Skyline Drive and tail of the dragon probably adds two nights in a hotel (instead of zero).
Bring a few quarts of oil and check it as you go.

I've done that hike a few times by car, Boston to Miami. One stop in DC, one stop in either Savannah or Charleston. I've done 4.7K mile trip in a 993 once and... if you can drive for 1,300 miles without sleep... you are definitely a better man than I.

Mountain Dew got me straight in my macan. Just didn’t know if it’s too much stress to go straight on a 27 year old car

Having driven mine from California to Colorado and back I must insist you take as much time as you can. The 993 is as good a touring car as it is on the track. It just loves to drive and will reward you handsomely for every mile you go.

I agree. Having seen Ian's car in action last year, it's easy to tick off the miles. These cars love to stretch their legs.

The car will be fine. You, as a driver, would not enjoy it. Unlike Macan, you sit lower, your back will not thank you, neither would other parts. 993 has much more NVH that causes fatigue. My personal max is 10 hours and the last few weren't pleasant. In other words, you can do it if time is at absolute premium... but why not take time and bond with the car?
Oh, one other thing. I-95 is flat and boring as sin. Get off it, visit some places would be my suggestion.

Being a prior military guy of more than 20 years, we moved roughly every 3 years. As much of a pain that was, road trips became commonplace. I've done many coast to coast trips but by far my favorite was the ALCAN highway. Every Motorhead should do it at least once. If it isn't to your liking, there are multiple coastal spots where you can duck out and throw your vehicle on the Alaska Marine Highway ferry system. It's nearly all paved but summer is road construction time. I wouldn't suggest it in a lowered 993 but if you're running a safari version, every day. The main issues are potholes, damaged roads, and frost heaves. It's not uncommon to hit one in the middle of nowhere at 80MPH and come off the ground.
It's a very memorable experience. I think everyone should do it at least once. I've never done it in the 993, but thinking that as I'm needing a paint job eventually, it could be a great time.

From that trip, the pic is called "The last of the Mohicans":

I say do it as well. If possible, I highly suggest taking a couple of days (or more) and stopping to visit people or places and to not only drive the interstate highways. I did a 6700 mile cross country round trip in 2014 and thoroughly enjoyed it.
