Axles
Hi gang,
I need new axles, and in looking online, some sources state the 993 Carrera and the 996 carrera share the same axle. Some sources look like they do not. Can anyone confirm?
car in question is 95 993 cab, 6 speed manual.
if they do not, can anyone share the correct part number?
lastly - how hard is swapping them for a diy-er, who has replaced them in early 911 models? Aside from the large nut on the stub axle, anything else that would be challenging? Anything in the way that has to be removed to be able to uninstall and install?

I can confirm the rear axles from an early 996 fit (99-01). I’m running a pair on my 97 C4S since it was less messy to replace to the entire half shaft vs changing torn boots.
part number is 99633202403.
im pretty sure the front axles are specific to the 993 and are pretty expensive. See if you can rebuild it if it’s just a torn boots. A axle shop can do it.
Axle swap is a pretty easy diy. busting that axle nut isn’t the hard part. Get a high torque impact and you are fine. It’s torquing it back to 305 ft/lbs that was the challenge for me - I don’t have a torque wrench that goes above 200. Get it as tight as you can, then take a to a shop to do a final torque down.

My documentation says it's 339 ft-lbs of torque on the axle nut... I don't have any of my original documentation though. If someone who knows can provide the proper answer, I'm sure others will appreciate it.
Thanks!
Thanks!

It looks like full half shafts are hard to get. I checked for them a couple of weeks ago in Germany and only OEM Porsche were available online. I checked various part websites and the were "out of stock". I was happy that the torn boot did not cause any issues and a simple replacement did the trick. The boot was about 12 Euro .and a new axle 1000 Euro ...
