Default AMG Porsche?

Could there be such a thing as an AMG Porsche or a Mercedes Benz Porsche AMG? Well here is what happened... Everybody knows that Porsche built the 500E/ E500 for Mercedes Benz but did you know that there was a very small batch of 500's built at Porsche that had AMG parts? Meet the W124 E60 AMG. I purchased the car just under a year ago and have had a very good friend of mine rehabilitate the car and make it what it is today, Originally ordered and delivered in Germany in 1993/94 the car spent 25+ years in South America before making its way to the US. I had the car completely gone through and serviced and the results are pretty incredible. The Mercedes Data Card lists it as an E60 AMG vs a 500E/ E500. It has the correct numbers matching engine and all of the AMG specific parts are still on the car and retain the HWA part number stickers.

The best variant (AMG) of the best variant (E500) of the best E-class. Color me green with envy. Congrats and enjoy.

That is cool! I didn't know about this car at all, thank you for sharing! What's it like to drive? Do the car doors close with that solid sound we like so much about our 993s?

Such a great (and rare) car! Enjoy.

My father had a W124 300E in the same color scheme. A great car in its own way, but a completely different class than yours.

Thanks guys! Its such a different car to the already legendary 500's. Its a little lumpy at idle and pulls so hard from around 3K on up. I guarantee you that 99% of the 500 guys don't even know that this car exists. I love that it has Porsche, Mercedes Benz and AMG undertones yet doesn't scream any one in particular. The factory installed 3 piece OZ's really make the stance that much better. Ill add a video in the future.

definitely a very cool car. from my understanding, it was meant to be 'the best' E500 in '93 (by this time they were E500s and not 500Es) with a 6.0 liter motor replacing the 5.0 liter. power jumped about 60hp to 381hp.

i have read conflicting reports on production. i've read articles that say definitively 45 units were produced and then i have read from 100-150 units. not to mention the 500s that were sent to AMG to be converted to E60 specs back in the day.

rare car, indeed. i lost my 500E to a hailstorm in TX. so wish i still had that car!

So the current reasonably accepted numbers are that this is one of 17 957 cars built of the 45 factory built E60’s. The remaining of the 45 were 957/ 958 cars. The rest were built at the dealer with AMG parts or by AMG itself. My car is a full factory build which is really cool!

Congrats on managing to find such a rare w124 Jason (been a while & hope all is well) - what an amazing example. Spruce is a great color.

There are a few of us in the 993 section that also have E500E's - @Jlaa has a wonderful example.

Not sure if you have explored the E500E community fully yet but I can guarantee you that more than 1% are fully aware of your car.

Enjoy in good health!

Thanks @Nurburger ! @JDHertz11 nice spruce green E60 specimen. I think I saw you over on the 500eboard.com with that car? Anyways in my humble experience, where the 6.0 liter M119 shines over the 5 liter example is in midrange torque. Enjoy in good health and beware of all the NLA parts!

Now you need a Audi RS2 to complete the Porsche built cars. Congrats on the car.
