Nice Motor Trend article

Very good article. Interesting I had a friend of mine who had his 996 break down on a PCA outing this past weekend that we went to together. I drove my 993 too and he had to ride with me back since we left his 996 at a facility. Anyhow it was his first time to drive my car and the first time to drive an air cooled 911. He struggled a bit with the clutch at first but he was amazed at the drive of the 993 and how different it was to his 2000 996. He also has a 928 and how different it was to that of course.

That IS Pat Long's car. I've seen it at my mechanic's shop a few times along with a few of his other cars. It is VERY clean.
One of the cool things about those seats is the low-profile ***** from Cantrell Motorsport he installed which make it a little easier to adjust the seatback (no affiliation). I wish those were available when I installed my A8s all those years ago.

Thank you for sharing the article.
My first read is the author missed the point of the 993. The author continuously wants to compare it to a modern car, instead of just embracing it for what it is.

I hear you. The inboard recline ***** on my A8s tore apart the center console after so much rubbing. And the outboard almost touch the door panel. I ended up cutting off the inboard ones with an angle grinder and that seemed to do the trick! I would have rather used these if they were available back then!!!

Yep. The sportsters are right/left specific with tilt switches and no inboard *****. Thankfully that wasn't an issue.

Yep. There is a handle type thing on the back of each seat built into the back. Tilting seats was a requirement because I still have small kids that can fit back there and they love riding in the 993.

Awesome, thanks! That's exactly why I was asking, my kids are the same way. Best weekend family car ever.

"Relative lack of power".
5.2 secs to 100 and 272 km/h top speed 30 years ago.
Weird how 992 Carrera is so much faster now.
And weird how this 1995 Ford Taurus looks a bit dated now.
